Are budget compressors ok?

I have a $400 clone of a nomad off Amazon. It has been working fine for a year. But I really don't expect it to last year's of consistent use. And they don't really have a proper air drying filter setup.

I just use the cheap compressor for my cheaper air rifles now and have the scuba shop fill my 97cuft tank for my Impact. Only cost $11 a fill and I know my investment is getting extremely dry and clean air.

I had a Hassan Spark, used it for a while then put 2K into Altaros booster based system.

I gave a friend the Spark, it has been running for two years now.

To answer your questions are the junk and do they work, yes and yes. If used wrong, they can soon be junk, if used correctly they will last a couple of years, but being oilfree and air cooled they are disposable. Used wrong usually means restarting under a load or over heating.

Best advice already has been given, read the compressor section. I do believe they are getting better each generation.

Good luck,

Cody,
In general, an authentic Yong Heng, with water and crankcase oil cooling, will provide years of dependable service, if not abused. Replacement parts are inexpensive, available and don't prohibit owner installation. Any oil-less/waterless compressor has a limited lifetime; replacement parts and ease of repair remaining elusive. Unless willing and able to spring for a big buck compressor, most agree the Yong Heng is the best bet for budget compressor dollars. WM

I have a GX Pump CS2 portable compressor that is coming up on two years old now. I added a moisture filter right away and use it quite regularly, almost daily but only to fill my guns, not tanks. It's still going strong.
I purchased a two year extended warranty with it for $30 or so. The warranty is almost up so based on Murphy's Law my compressor will go from working as good as the day I got it to kaput that day after the warranty expires. LOL

For me the budget compressor works fine. Several of the brands seem to be made in the same Chinese plant so pick the one you like and buy and enjoy. Just remember if you have issues the parts come from China and take a month or so to get here, I'm still waiting... My Spiritech lasted for a year had 8-10 hours on it and needed a rebuild so I replaced it with the Vevor. It's the upright model with dual fans and under the cover is exactly the same as the Spiritech, go figure.
At any rate, it works great (better than the Spiritech) and I now have the rebuild kit for the Spiritech so fix it and will have a backup! Works for me but you need to decide, air tanks are great I'm sure but with my compressor I don't have to go drop it off to get it filled and then go back and pick it up. The only option I have where I live.
