Arboreal Fox?!?!?

They're great climbers just not so grateful at coming down. Of course my pet grey (back when I was a young lad) thought she was a cat, being she was raised by our mother cat who just had a litter of kittens of the same age, about one week old. I introduced the fox pup to the litter by rolling the fox and kittens together for several minutes and the mother cat excepted the pup as one of her own!

Fox did well on cats milk! Grew up faster than the kittens and was quicker. When the dinner bell rang she was always first to the bowl. Got a little off subject but thought you would enjoy the story.

Cheers

Yes they are indeed great climbers. I watch the videos of pet foxes and rescue foxes on youtube and sometimes wish ... oh, well. Can't always have what we want.

Very cool to have small predators around. They hunt everyday, which helps keep them rodents in check. @qball, the fox is your ratting rival... It was probably looking for some squirrel offerings from you.😀

I would love to provide free meal service to such cool neighborhood crew but I realized from the videos he ate all the peanut butter I put on the tree trunk for the squirrels. With it's scent and lack of peanut butter the fox is doing him or herself a disservice. 😂

@qball that is a cool and not "everyday" seen sight, its a first for me. And just looked, apparently greys are one of the few foxes that do climb trees.

"What really sets gray foxes apart is their ability to climb. Unlike other canines gray foxes have semi-retractable claws that stay sharp and enable gray foxes to grasp tree trunks almost like a cat. Gray foxes can also rotate their forearms and climb by grasping a tree with their forearms and pushing up with their hind feet. They will climb as high as 50 or 60 feet and will jump from branch to branch while up in a tree" https://emammal.wordpress.com/2013/06/13/gray-fox-behavior/

I didn't even occur to me to look them up on google and WOW! 50-60 feet is unreal!!! I certainly appreciate these grey foxes presence in the neighborhood for now, they are building crazy amount of expensive super small yard house in my area and I'm afraid their mobility and territory will be limited soon.
