Just wondering how well it works because I am thinking of picking one up for the Lelya. Like to here some opinions.
For me, The Bat supressor reduced the sound about 5-6 decibels when measured at a distance of 9 yards with my Lelya 2.0. I think that's pretty darn good. The Lelya is set around 850 fps with the JSB 25.4's. I recently got my Lelya from Brian at Edgun West and am very happy with the gun and his service.
This test was unscientific, and I just used my iPhone Decibel X app to measure. Initially, I measured with my iPhone about a foot from the muzzle. It sounded different with The Bat, but decibel's didn't really change from the stock moderator. As mentioned previously, with The Bat, the mechanical noise was now louder than the shot. I think I read that Ed had mentioned that the true test for loudness should be measured at about 25-30 meters away. So, I moved my iphone to the table on my deck that was 9 yards away, and tested five shots with stock moderator and the The Bat. This is where I got the nice 5-6 decibel reduction with The Bat.
However, I'm not not using The Bat right now, because the Lelya is already backyard friendly enough for me. Later that day, my wife came out on our deck while I was shooting. I asked her how loud she thought the gun was. She it was not too loud at all. In fact, she mentioned that the hummingbird at our feeder didn't even move when I was shooting. She and the feeder were both about 9 yards away. So, I guess my Lelya 2.0 with stock moderator is 'backyard' and also 'hummingbird' friendly.
I have the original baffle system (the $120 version) on my Lelya 2.0 in .177 and it works great but it does add a significant amount of length which is very noticeable on a bullpup.
So that’s the question, how does the Bat’s performance compare to the above?
Thanks Tim for posting the pics for comparison. I'm trying to recall where I saw a video on the BAT Suppressor. It might have been one of your videos where you talk about the BAT. Prior to watching that video, I came across the BAT on Edgun West and didn't give it much thought thinking it was another offset design which looks weird IMO.
I got the BAT for my R5M .25cal just for kicks to try out even though the OEM suppressor/shroud on my R5M works perfectly fine. Another reason I got the BAT is that eventually, I'll be picking up a Lelya in .25 to play with. Just thinking ahead.
