Anyone in Irma's Path

I live in SouthWest Florida (Venice) but I'm in Ohio right now. Headed home tomorrow to access the situation, move some personal items (my avatar) and make sure my 92 yr old mother is going to be safe. Looks like Irma is coming right at us. Monster storm. I'm not interested in riding it out so I/we will be gone before she gets there.

My In-Laws were in Tampa while my Father-in-Law was evaluated for treatment by a cancer clinic there. No good news on that front, but the two of them have retreated north well into Georgia for the moment. A harrowing trip from what we've heard, but now settled in for the next week or so. With this storm I'm just not sure they've gone far enough. Even if the direct effects of the storm don't cause them injury or loss the aftermath is sure to be horrendous. I pray G0D's grace pours out on His children in the coming days down there!

I'm prepared but I'm also annoyed by the media hype. A hurricane, even a big one, is normal. What's not normal is the 20 year hurricane drought we've been in. I'm hoping the cycle will return to normal where we get at least one storm like this yearly. It will go a long way to replenish the aquifer that so many people packed into the state has depleted.

Modern South Florida was built in a gigantic lake bed that has just happened to be dry for the past several decades. Unethical real estate speculators got rich on selling people land that the swamp is just begginng to reclaim. One of these storms is bound to flood virtually all of south Florida.

She is coming this way. The animals are proving it. A rattlesnake ended up at my porch this evening and bit my dog. It was looking for higher ground...
