Anyone here convert big bores into arrow fishing rigs?

Wondering what guns and how they are set up for pneumatic spear fishing. In my state the laws are fuzzy on air powered spear fishing but I'm pretty sure it's legal for carp. Wondering how many of you are doing this and how you rig your gun to do it. My guess is pic rail and standard bass pro shop reel with a custom arrow but very interested in hearing about what works from people who have actually done it. Thanks

I'd rig it up like a bow fishing rig. Bow fishing arrow with a AMS bow fishing reel. Good thing with the AMS is there is no button to forget to push before the shot like there is on other reels. Leave the arrow long enough for the line slide to stick out of the muzzle.

The ams is definitely the way to go. I usually shoot 35-40 lbs on a bow fishing setup with no let off, I snap shoot. Ive ran 60-75 pounds on an older pse I lost several arrows due to it sticking in the mud or rocks. I would think a lower powered pcp would do good.

One issue I see is shooting the string out of the reel, with most bow fishing bows by the time you run out of string the arrow is slowed down enough the string stops the arrow, with the PCP there will probably be enough energy to snap the string or break the reel. Just have to watch the distance. Then there is sticking the arrow in a log or bank, it can be a pain to get out when shot by a 50 ish pound bow.

I was considering the dragon claw for the gun with a metal pic rail installed into the fore grip. Sounds like a detune might be needed to make it more reasonable to work with.

Just shoot it at the half cock,....that is how I was shooting the Claw with airbolts

shooting fish with a scoped Airgun is actually a very good idea ( I think I'll look into it )



with the water reflection you need to aim lower then the target, with a scope you can really play with mildots in this application.

first of all, dont use a scope. 2nd, use a bow. lol. if you have ever bowfished, there really is not any aiming involved in the sport. it is PURE INSTINCT. too many scenarios to try to calculate an aim. id like to try it. honestly, it would be easier for someome who has never bowfished with a bow!

I build bows out of weird stuff like pvc and exercise bands and plywood all the time. I mainly wanted the airgun because I love doing strange things with airguns. I like pushing boundaries on what they can do just out of curiosity. When I was a kid I made an arrow launcher out of a multipump rifle. It was a daisy if I'm not mistaken. Totally useless but one of the funnest times in my life. That's the spirit of most my airgun projects..... Unless I am actually building a purpose driven hunting rifle or something I use as a tool.

They used a double tubed Seneca dragon claw on an Episode of american airgunner. I would choose the same because you can use the half cock notch. I would imagine full power to just bury the arrow further into the mud on the bottom.

I hunt with longbows and Selfbows so trust me I know about not aiming,....and that is exactly why I say a scope in my opinion might be very conducive to this endevour.

When I had the Claw I only used it at half cock with arrows and was still launching them at 380 fps and just blow through thick wild boars so i think it's a bit much



I believe with the REX at half cock the power should much lower and better for fishing.
