Anyone have the ST-X barrel for Impact yet?

I've been checking and so far no barrel liners for the ST-X. Airgun Depot said none in stock yet but I could get on a list.

I'm starting to question a need for this barrel for my .25 cal Impact. I was hoping to see some groups compared to the standard ST barrel.

Also has anyone used the 700 mm ST-X barrel kit on their Impact? Does it shoot better than the 600 mm ST-X?

My Impact has been shooting sub MOA groups at 50 yd. I doesn't do near that well at 100 so perhaps that's where the ST-X shines.

Sorry for the questions, there's just no info out there and I hate parting with several hundred bucks on blind faith.

Would love some input and would like to know when these barrels are due to hit the shops.
Thanks

Drumsnguns,

You ask the very same questions that I've been dying to ask. I don't yet own an Impact, but I've got permission from "Headquarters" to put down a pre-order for one if I want. I want. But before I plop down the hootch, I need to know what advantage the 700mm barrel will have over the standard length barrel in both .25 and .30 calibers. I want to shoot coyotes with slugs out to 75 yards if possible with the Impact. I'd prefer to do it with the standard length barrels unless the longer one offers an advantage for the extra money spent.

I'd also like to know if FX will sell new guns from the new facility, or if I still have to buy from a retailer.

Anybody know?

I’m convinced the st-x is a step up from the st. I have a Crown in .25 and an Impact. At 100y shooting the 25.4 jsb’s sub inch groups are frequent.

This is typical. 100y washed but not sorted 25.4 jsbs. That is 16 shots.

This is the best group I’ve ever shot. 5 shots under 1/2 inch at 100y.
When it’s calm at 100y shooting quality pellets at the right speed you will get sub inch groups. They just start landing on top of each other.
Ive shot a lot of with my standard smooth twist barrel and it’s a good barrel but the st-x is better.

AirSupply, Nice shooting and yes I have no doubt the ST-X shoots lights out in the Crown. I'm wanting to hear from Impact owners....but if these barrels aren't out yet then I guess I won't be hearing from them LOL. Those are amazing groups at 100 BTW.

BeemanR7 you ask a question I forgot to ask....will the ST-X handle slugs? I've heard a rumor that they will but as before....no real info out there.

Guess at this point it's a waiting game.

As far as I know the NC facility is just for wholesale distribution and repairs. I would imagine they would sell repair parts but I don’t know about accessories. As far as the 700mm barrel goes , with the pellet traveling through should spin at a higher rate theoretically giving it better stability. So if you do everything else right and cross your fingers you shoud have a more accurate rifle. There are a lot of factors going into this someone with a shorter barrel but a better tune on the rifle could have better results, in other words you may do better.
like I said earlier wait for what comes out of IWA next week.

I'm hoping that the 700mm barrel will be more accurate for slugs. But more than that, I hope that it is more efficient on air consumption for slugs. If I have this figured correctly, a 700mm Smooth Twist X barrel liner with the appropriate twist rate for slugs should not only be more accurate for slugs, but also more efficient on air. If this is true, then I will probably order a 700mm barrel in .30 caliber and shoot JSB pellets through it until I can get a 700mm liner with a higher twist rate for slugs. All that's left to determine is which twist rate is best for the slugs I choose. I'll have to rely on AoA's or FX's suggestions unless perhaps someone among us finds the goose that laid the golden egg.

I talked to AoA this afternoon. The twist rate of a Smooth Twist barrel is 1:16. The Smooth Twist X on the Crown is 1:28; a much slower rate than the original Smooth Twist. I asked if slugs shoot well out of either, and the sales person said he thought that slugs wouldn't shoot well in the Smooth Twist or the Smooth Twist X. He surmised that for slugs the twist rate would have to be a much higher rate but no one has tested them yet and won't for some time yet to come. He expects FX to make some definitive announcements at IWA beginning this Thursday.

I asked if the 700mm barrel would be more efficient than the 600mm barrel and he seemed to think that it would. But he seemed to speak with caution and reserve because so little testing has yet been done. My guess is Ted or Matt would be the best ones to ask these questions. Ernest would likely have the answers too. My guess is that nobody's going to say much until FX has a chance to make their official statements at IWA.

In summary, the word seems to be: Wait until after IWA.

Greetings,

I sent an email a few weeks ago to the new FX US folks, and asked about the X barrels for the Impact. I had read that they'd (at least initially) be available as an upgrade at a lower cost. They sent me a pdf which shows 3 options, 700 mm full barrel kit, 600 mm full barrel kit, and 600 mm upgrade kit. For the upgrade kit, you use your existing pellet probe and the moderator from your current barrel. There was no mention of twist rates, or liner availability. They also didn't answer questions about prices, nor did they answer whether they'd be selling them directly.

The liners have so much potential, but I've learned to be skeptical about availability of anything from FX. I hope they eventually plan to start production activities in the US as well to help make products available, but that's probably wishful thinking.

Cheers,
Rusty
