I like my Clearidge Ultra RM. It's one of those scopes that gives you more than other optics in the same price range so it has made me curious to try one of their 4.5-14x40 or 6-20x40 Ultra XP line.

Just like the Ultra RM line, the XP scopes seem to be ideal for air guns. They focus down to 10 yards, have a mil dot reticle and aren't too heavy. 19oz for a 6-20x40 seems manageable for me but I rarely hear anyone talk about them here. Why is that?

Does anyone here own a Clearidge Ultra XP? If so, how is the glass? What is the usable power range? i.e is it clear on 20x or 14x? If not, what is the max usable setting?

I would be interested to know what scopes you are comparing it to when forming your opinions. Saying it sucks compared to your $1000 scope is not the same as comparing it to your $350 Hawke scope, for example.

I considered the XP when I was buying my RM but I got put off by an ad in the classifieds where someone wanted to trade their XP for an RM - a stupid reason I know but in the absence of any more useful info....

Given how well priced and air gun friendly they seem, my assumption is that their apparent lack of popularity is due to: a) there is another similar spec scope known to be better for $350, b) it not being a well known brand in these circles like Hawke is c) the rest of the Clearidge range is not very good and the RM was a freak occurance d) or plenty of people own and love them but they are too busy shooting to spend time talking about it here...
