I guess I'm one of the few lucky people to live near an air gun only indoor range. It is really quiet compared to a PB range. We are required to wear hearing protection when we have big PCP rifles out, but we can get away with taking off the hearing protection when it's only 10M rifles and pistols.
The only public gun range I won't go back to is near a friends house in Cumming GA. They let people shoot 12g shotguns at the indoor pistol range that is all concrete like an echo chamber. Not only was it un-bearably loud, but the returning blast pressure would come back so hard it felt like getting kicked in the chest with a logging boot.
