Anybody else save their empties?

Dunno what compelled me to save them, but I have since the beginning. 

Kinda fun to be able to keep track of how many have gone through a gun, and to see the trends in what gets used the most. Also a little nostalgic to pull these out of storage and remember all the fun I had sending them downrange through various guns and at various parts of the airgun journey. 

Mostly organized from the heaviest stuff I shoot on the left (Monster RDs) to the lightest stuff on the right (JSB 7.87). There's also some random stuff down on the far right. And I haven't kept all my slug boxes. 

Anybody else hang on to their empty tins?

I do the same to track shots by gun.

I did but they take up too much space and I was always knocking them over. Now they go in the round file and disposed of once a week,

Back in the day when I worked In photo finishing, I used to save the tins from bulk 100’ rolls of film. They were incredibly handy to have around. Now, some 30 years later, I want to shoot more pellets so I have more empty tins. Except I can’t find any.

 I save them for pellet sorting. 

Theres a guy who is a member here that doesn’t post much anymore, that glued each tin on the underside, to his wall and created a type of wall finish with empty pellet tins. Kinda looked cool for his man cave

I fill mine with duct seal and use them as targets.

I did for a bit and then my anti-clutter OCD kicked in and I went for the recycle bin. I do always keep a few empty screw lid tins on hand for slugs or whatever.

I keep the screw cap tins. Especially the smaller ones hat are easier to carry with me when I go on an outing.

I save them for a year to see how many I go through, then send them out to the garage for small parts.

They make decent targets I guess. Just started airgunning again since my younger days so I only have one empty lol

I have a few. I end up getting rid of them every so often. It's getting to that point again. I would like to do something cool with them to display the various label art but I don't know what. Have any ideas???

I tape 4 of them together and do meaningless pellet penetration test with various pellets at various speeds using my Pulsar. I also look at expansion. No comparison to any hunting targets, just fun to look at results. 



A JSB 18 on high power at 932fps will penetrate 3.5 empty JSB TINS @ 25 YDS with final hole diameter of 8 mm. Probably would penetrate a human skull with no problem. Know a few folks who’s skull would qualify as “an empty tin” lol.

I save empty tins with screw-on lids. When I get tins with slip-on lids I pour the pellets into a screw-on lid tin then use a hair dryer to remove and switch labels. No more worrying about tins opening in the side pockets of my cases.
