Any thoughts on this gun?

I was just working on mine last night. The fill probe that comes with the gun is soft junk. Wes in Canada got upgraded SS probes. I bought one and now I have replaced 3 fill port orings in 4 shooting sessions. I will be starting a topic on GTA about it soon. I believe I know why but it’s always something. One step forward two steps back.

Obviously you haven't listened to THIS-

Brass probes belong straight into the rubbish can.

Buy a HUMA STAINLESS STEEL ONE ZERO PROBLEMS-!

We know what happened when Diana put lipstick on a pig. Is SPA doing the same with a different stock and the holy grail forward cocking lever? They need to address the heart and soul of a good airgun, not fluff. Can’t wait to see what a P35’s crown and leade looks like or how it’s reg performs without first having to put a 5 gallon bucket full of pellets through it. Lots of UK guys were excited about the P15. When guys like Jarmstrong, Mackeral5, and miksatx got them in their hands, I knew the truth. Hopefully guys like that will get P35’s but I wouldn’t hold your breath. I know I’m pretty much done with money pits. Unless it’s a gun with great resale value.

The light weight and minimal but quite comfortable wood stock can’t be denied. I actually bought a Skyhawk just to swap the walnut stock onto my money pit. Very quickly went back to the original. The Skyhawk stock was bulbous and had a weird LOP. It did however motivate me to refinish my P15 stock. Sold the Skyhawk to a friend and told him I would build a barrel and put a Huma in it if he wanted. He sold it after a tin of pellets and bought a Brocock. He’s smart, we would have had in the Skyhawk darn near what he paid for the Brocock.

Well I am leaving this in my cart forever. That soft metal probe and o ring business with the poor magazine sound like it would require a lot of the not-so-fun kind of tinkering.

I will await the p 35.

you all are fantastic - great information and you all show a zeal and enthusiasm that makes me glad to be hooked up with this forum.

can any of you recommend a budget airgun that has airforce Airgun level refined/streamlined/simplified design that someone with two left thumbs would be able to disassemble and mess around with? Maybe I should just stick with the Air Force but I've kind of wanted to see what a product was like from a different company.

Something compact like a bull pup or oversized pistol, on the higher power side (or easily modifiable for more power). Evanix rex and rexp looks like it has that really simple in-line design but I am not sure about quality and actual user friendliness. Maybe I'm clueless but I have a hard time imagining spending more than 600-700. that last limit may have to change, but I'm not looking for a competition "match grade" i am not that good a shot so basic decent accuracy works for me.

I think that you have to accept that in this hobby, if you want good, you are going to spend dumb money for a pellet gun. I think all airguns, from the turds to the elite are overpriced. An expendable income alleviates some of the burn. My P15 would make you very happy but for now I’m having a hard time parting with it. I guess all the man hours in it created some kind of weird bond.

Ok thanks guys. Vetmx- I ended up buying airforce products when I started this hobby a year ago because of the price and simplicity. Still expensive but buying a TalonP or escape is a nice relatively nice entryway to pcp guns and modification. Maybe I just need to stick with airforce - don't care about magazines really - just another complex mechanism to cause headaches as far as my needs go.

By all means, I did not mean to put you off from buying one, I just meant to warn you. They are not for everybody. Like Vetmx said, I too have so many hours and money into mine I would never sell it either. They are incredibly fun and light once sorted out. I did win the barrel lottery. I have a .25 with a damn near perfect bore but I did have to re do the crown. They are excellent project guns that's for sure. I took a rasp file and completely shaped the grip to my hand and put an Esse Izula knife scale on it for a palm swell and even the once blocky grip became comfortable. It is the kind of gun you are not afraid to try stuff out on. If you are starting out doing your own stuff, that's good. If you have some other gun that you can shoot while you are working on this one, take this on as an airgunsmithing master class project. You'll be adding a bigger plenum better regulator, depinging the hammer, opening ports, changing springs, bedding the action.... You will learn a lot, which could end up being more valuable than the price paid.

Odoyle I would love to see a pic of your airgun collection. Thanks for the tips from all of you. I would be getting this specifically because it would be a project gun. Don't want something so perfect that I'm afraid to rip into it.

I will do some more research. To anyone who is familiar with the content of all of those discussions, is there any main theme in terms of what kinds of modifications would be needed?

johnny - I don't have any .22 pellet or slug molds so even if the .25 is a riskier buy, I am choosing (maybe) to just double down on the .25. I guess I could get a .22 mold... I will see what molds are in stock out there.

I have a single shot P12 after replacement Lothar Walther barrel it's right at consistent MOA from (average lot) unsorted JSB 18.1gr straight outa the tin at 100 yards and it's unregulated. I expect even better shooting my GOOD lot of JSBs.

Haven't tried my home made Corbin- NSA slugs through it yet.

My Diana Skyhawk (Pig with lipstick) has a CZ barrel but hadn't gotten around to shoot past 40 yards but hole in hole just like shooting 10 yards using GOOD lot unsorted JSB 18.1gr straight out of the tin.

I don't like wasting my home made slugs for shooting less than 100 yards so I didn't try.

That gun is starting to sound like a loser

It sounds very much like a project gun 'right outa da box' just like my PP700SA. poope barrels that should be an embarrassment to ANY manufacturing facility.
