Any thoughts on this gun?

anyone have or try one of these? Looks like a taipan knock off more or less to my eyes.

curious if it is easily modifiable what kind of power can achieve with tuning tweaks. My artemis pp700 seemed like the deal of the century. Now this is tempting me. I know there are better guns like this for $1000 plus but just curious about this deal.

Many. There has been volumes written about it, here, and at gatewaytoairguns.org. Basically, in the end, to bring it to its full potential, it is not worth it unless you want to learn how to do everything to improve an airgun. In that case, it's pure gold. You can end up with a gun that shoots just as well as anything but it will take time and money that you could have used to buy Taipan Veteran and been shooting it. So, it depends what you want out of it. The only advantage, besides the knowledge gained, is that at the end you have a really lightweight little bullpup that you know inside and out. Most, not all, wish that they had just bought better. It depends on your personality I guess. I am talking mostly about the .25 caliber, many have had good luck with the .177/.22 right out of the box.

Odoyle I would love to see a pic of your airgun collection. Thanks for the tips from all of you. I would be getting this specifically because it would be a project gun. Don't want something so perfect that I'm afraid to rip into it.

I will do some more research. To anyone who is familiar with the content of all of those discussions, is there any main theme in terms of what kinds of modifications would be needed?

johnny - I don't have any .22 pellet or slug molds so even if the .25 is a riskier buy, I am choosing (maybe) to just double down on the .25. I guess I could get a .22 mold... I will see what molds are in stock out there.

PumaCarl said it perfectly. I bought one years ago but don’t think that SPA upgraded the new models, we all know they don’t. To get mine performing up to the standards of what I think a PCP should be, I have Taipan money invested in mine. If you are a that’s good enough kind of guy, you could possibly be happy with the components that come with the gun but there is still a 90% chance you will be working on the barrel and reg. The gun is light and a cool concept, but it’s almost guaranteed that you will be working on it out of the box. Even the screws that hold the thing together stretch. I still have mine and it’s an excellent shooter but I can’t sell it because it’s not worth half of what I have invested in it. I lived inside this gun for 6 months over on GTA. Me and a couple others learned a lot. The most important thing I learned is don’t ever recommend certain guns to people who just want to shoot because they aren’t machinist. Like all substandard guns, you will always have the guy who says his is the greatest out of the box gun ever but trust me, if he isn’t being less than truthful or suffering from buyers remorse, he is definitely in the minority.
