any suggestions for woodpecker?

If it's deemed to be a pest, it may fall under a different set of rules regarding shooting them. In IL, for example, squirrel season is only for a certain time from fall through winter. But if they're chewing on your house to get into your attic, they become 'pests' rather than 'game' and it's open season.

I have woodpeckers on my mulberry tree, and they're cute. But if they were tearing up my house, it would not be nearly as cute. Just sayin'.

Squirrels are state controlled. Woodpeckers are Federal controlled. Two totally different types of entities as far as wildlife goes. The Feds rarely give permission for any activity other than exclusion or harassment of a protected species, and trust me, you better have permission in writing.

In my area we hang up metal or wooden silhouettes of woodpeckers. Usually 1 out of 2 things happen, they see the area is claimed and move on, or they start to fight, can be fun to watch.

Thanks for the suggestions, much appreciated, I may have to change tactics and install a few metal panels in the effected.

My less than effective deterrents thus far: owl bobble head, Mylar balloons, pin wheels and aluminum foil.
