I am looking at Sightron SIII 10-50×60 but it’s a stretch for my budget. Do they ever go on sale? Perhaps Black Friday? Any vendors that I should watch out for their holiday sales?

They do offer military and law enforcement discounts. If you are current military or have a dd214 they have a program, not sure if you fit that category but thought I would throw it out there. If it fits, send a email to them and they can fill you in on details.

Both the Falcon 10-50, and the Hawke 10-50 ED are worth taking a look at. I know people that use both and are happy with them.

I have purchased three of them. Never really found one “on sale”. SWFA and Optics Planet have been the lowest prices I’ve found. Availability and selection have been as much a deciding factor for purchase than price.

IMO, the Sightron is better than the Hawke ED. The ED's reticle is too fine for my old eyes. Sightron offers a wide choice of reticles for different applications. I use the fine cross hair for BR and MOA-2 for general long range shooting. I found a good price at Optics Planet when surfing their site early in the morning (6:00 AM). By 8:30, the price was back up $100. Here comes black Friday.

They don’t really go on sale. They had an amazing Christmas in July rebate that was like $150-300 (I think) depending on the model. You mostly just have to look around for places that are willing to offer discounts or low prices.

I like Hawke scopes and have several. I was considering buying an ED model previously. I then looked at the ED model this year at the Arkansas air gun show and I also found the reticle to be very fine-a bit hard to pick up quickly and easy to lose it in any cluttered background. The quality of the glass seemed excellent and if one has very good vision the Hawke would probably be great and would probably be fine for target use only for most shooters. I'd definitely recommend physically looking through one before purchase however.

There is a model with an illuminated red dot in the center. If the optic is turned off is this space empty, or is it a black dot or a hollow circle or what? I will be using this scope exclusively for BR so I am open to suggestions for the best reticle.

With illumination off its a black solid dot. I use mine for field target and benchrest.. It range finds well for field target and focuses out to 300 yards or so..

Agree with Davec107. With the illumination off the solid black dot works very well for benchrest. I shot one in local benchrest matches for 2 years with good results.
