Any hog hunters here shooting the FX Impact?

Good day from Texas,

I’ve been shooting my FX Impact M3 .30 Sniper mainly at paper and steel, and having a good time doing it.

I’m looking at the energy of the ZAN Slugs and FX Hybrids I’m using, and it looks to me like this rifle could very well be used for hogs on my farm. I’m really not that angry at squirrels and rabbits, but hogs on the other hand are damned destructive. I’ve hunted them with semiautomatic gas guns for years.

I’d very much like to know what your thoughts were. I may have to just get out there and try it, but would love to hear your experiences and thoughts.

Thanks in advance!

There have been members of this forum taking hogs with airguns for years. I've viewed hunters taking large hogs -- humanely -- with .22 caliber airguns. These were always well-placed head shots.

Check out this video I found on Youtube:

The action starts at 6:10 of the video. The hunter is using a .25 caliber Air Venturi Avenger.

I think you're good with your .30 caliber FX Impact.

Have you tested the Zan 54 grain in .30 cal? I've found excellent accuracy with them at 100 yards.

Good Luck.

I've finally gotten my airforce condor .25 shooting consistent 1/2" groups at 50 yds after too many yrs to mention. The AVS .253 44g slugs is what I'll be staying with from here on out. I've been taking squirrel head shots a little over 50yds at the feeder I've set up for a hog that comes through here occasionally. The gun is putting out just under 95 fpe.

So I'm hoping in a week I'll get the chance at my first hog with the gun. I may get to post some pics after the fact but I don't have a setup that I can film it at night, I'll attempt it but I haven't had much luck videoing at night in the past.

Here's a video by Florida Bullfrog I've saved from yrs back when he took a decent size hog at appx 60 yds with his 80 fpe marauder using ratsniper 45g slugs. It was a good clean kill.

Without a power tune? No. Just not enough horsepower. 1 FPE per Pound of body weight. A hog about the size of a sack of corn will weigh close to 100lbs. I passed on a 300+ pound hog this weekend because of the shot and distance. There is no fun in watching a hog suffer because of a bad shot.

Well that is almost right enough for the Heart/lung shot, almost.

For Brain shot that formula is worthless, been dropping big Boars with .22 .25 and .30 for many years

This one is a solid boar, I had to wait 10 minutes before he gave me the shot but once he did the .25 Benjamin pellet did the job
