Anticipating and Timing Drift.

Hey guys,

Total newb who can't hold a rifle still her.

I was just wondering, when sighting in your target, do you anticipate and time for front sight drift?

Like I said, I have a hard time holding a rifle sight on target so my technique has been to anticipate the drift of the front sight and time my trigger pull to where I think the front sight will be covering the target. Is this a common technique or am I doing this totally wrong?

Thanks!

Yes, it’s useful for offhand shooting as Rob indicated. Really need a good 2-stage trigger to fully take advantage of it in my opinion. Knowing precisely when the sear is going to break is essential. For some trigger groups, you can improvise a 2-stage by simply adding a spring plunger. Needs to be a drop sear type trigger though, otherwise it’s likely to suffer from sear drag and mess up the velocity.
