Anschutz 8001, anyone own one?

I see they are still available as a laminate stock Junior version. I just purchased a plain vanilla walnut one on a lark and was surprised there is very little info on this model. I won't have the gun in my hands for a month, but figured I'd ask if anyone has personal experience with one.

So far, all I know is they still have parts available and Anschutz USA will service them if I feel it's beyond my skill set. It's an Annie, so overall quality and the barrel won't have any surprises. I found virtually nothing on the interwebs other than passing references and one about a gent that had to have it serviced at around 7K shots.

Just curious if a special charging adapter is needed for the PCP cylinder or if it has a hidden fill port. I didn't ask any questions when I bought it, so I'm aware I may have a pig in a poke, but the price was reasonable enough to be a bit daring.

Thanks in advance for any information.

Crank,. .

I had a 2002 and now have an 8002 and they are all similar. The 8009 has a removable air cylinder and you need an adapter to fill it. One may come with the rifle so I would wait and see. The adapter is a 200 DIN filler valve adapter and costs $50 or so. It is available from Champions Choice as part number 001521. With that part I screw it into my Gehman hand pump or use yet another adapter on that to get to a male foster fitting. I think there may be adapters that take you directly from the cylinder to the foster, not sure.

These guns are low power guns for 10 meter shooting but are really great to shoot. Sold the 2002 some time ago but it was just a fantastic for silhouette. I shoot the 8002 almost every day with iron sights at10 meters.

Good luck.

Update: I'm back in the States and I finally got to see what I bought. Overall in very good condition, but no buttplate and no fill adapter. Some odd loss of anodizing on the receiver, but I can live with it. The cylinder was holding a charge and I sent one pellet through it, just to make sure it works. Seems to be a good score, now I have to buy, or make an adapter and see if I can snag a used buttplate assembly on the cheap.

My guess is it was probably a club or CMP rifle. Hence the missing bits. If anyone has the parts laying around gathering dust, contact me by PM and see if we can work something out. The stock has lots of light handling dents, but reasonably nice grain, so I may go with a gentle refinish and slightly darker, I'm not a fan of blonde wood. I have to pull the action so I can give it a thorough cleaning and I'll decide what to do with it then.
