Another unlucky rabbit.

Not sure what it is about my county property but this year I've bagged 3 in pretty much the same way. I get out of my jeep and start setting thins up to do some shooting. Either one of two things happen. Either spook the rabbit when I walk out to setup targets, or they stare at me without moving until I shoot them.

Anyone else have any similar experience before?

Happens all the time around my place. Since our outdoors-only dog passed away, they have completely lost any fear. I have a setup that lets me do headshots from out to 50 yards, but it's somewhat pointless since I can usually walk up to within 5 feet of them. Just for laughs, I did just that and fired a full ten-round clip from a Crosman Vigilante all around one of them. Didn't even flinch. Works fine for me...

When I was a little kid I would throw a frog spear at them from 10 feet away of course I missed but it was fun. I've walked within feet of one the other day after dark. There everywhere by my turkey coop. Some rabbits are smart some are dum I wish we had a lot of rabbits around here

A lot of their activity coincides with their breeding cycles. I've read where they can produce up to four litters a year. During these times they are very careless. I've seen where multiples were shot, and while retrieving from opposing directions, return to find a young male humping a dead female.

Looks like I'll have to be more diligent about taking rabbits when the opportunity presents itself, whether its to easy or not. Last thing I need is them stripping the fruit trees I intend to plant in the next month or two.
