Another PCP Question

This is what I have read here and there over the years. But many/most shops will not fill them if they are over ten years old.

" Tanks that have an external diameter of 2 inches or less, and are less than 2 feet long are exempt from being re-hydrotested. Tanks generally included in this category are 13/3000 compressed air tanks and small 3.5oz CO2 tanks."

OK, so if we are trying to be safe, where are all of the replacement reservoirs? I see a few here and there but nothing that is really readily available. Is this something you have to send back to the manufacturer for repair?

Are there even cases out there of people having issues with PCP rifles exploding (there has to be a few)?

Practically speaking, the reservoir testing is up to you. Consider this: If yours is fifteen years old, and you are the only person who knows that, "you are on your own". The birthdates, thus expiration dates on CF-bound aluminum tanks and reservoirs are a DOT thing for certified fillers to heed. If a DOT-certified filler never sees your reservoir, it is up to your personal judgement. If it makes you feel unsafe to use your reservoir past five years, by all means have it hydrotested. This regulation is still on the books because the Feds do not have what they deem sufficient history on CF technology to persuade them to allow the same "life" as steel tanks.
