Another Kral, another squirrel!

Set out a fresh pile of pecans and waited, drinking my morning coffee trying to stay warm. No breeze today, just cold. I barely took my seat when I hear the fence rattle and see this grey on the top rail, flicking her tail. She was uneasy, but couldn't resist these sweet nuts.
I studied her for a bit, not giving me a shot. She was quick to get a nut and go 15 feet away to bury(and forget it lol). These squirrels know by now it's a good chance you cross my fence you don't cross back. Well this one did, with a 25 cal hades @ 50 fpe.
Hit her through the left shoulder and it came out her right front leg. She dropped on to her chest and I thought it was done. She tried to take a breath and realized she was done for. Hopped off the log, crawled under the fence and down the retaining wall, leaving a huge blood trail.
I went to look, astonished that she even made it off the kill zone. Can't find her anywhere from my view, she's in the neighbor's yard now. The neighborhood Karen's yard! I quickly scaled the fence, down the retaining wall, and luckily found her tucked up on the back edge where our yards meet. Basically ended up back and below my backstop. Thankfully I retreived it before her coon hound did.

Crazy to think how my kill yesterday dropped in its tracks with the same shot placement yet this one took off with almost double the energy. Only difference was the 22 slug didn't exit on the squirrel yesterday. That energy dump makes a world of difference.

Mr. Boostcreep,
WOW!!! I felt the excitement and satisfaction of the successful pesting all the way here in California.
The write-up, the marksmanship and the pictures of the weapon and lethal wound were all very well done.

The agility required to recover that squirrel left me years ago. I thank you for the post, very entertaining.

Stay healthy and safe,
