Tuning Another HW97k tear down......finally

Today I finally got around to taking down my other HW97. The rifle was bought new about two years ago and has been just sitting in the cabinet waiting for me to do something with it. This afternoon I finally got to it. These have to be the filthiest rifles outa the box. It was just like my other one when I worked on it new. Weihrauch coats them inside good with a cosmolene type grease.....whatever the grease is that they use. It's awful stuff! Thus far just spent the afternoon degreasing and cleaning every part. In the next day or two I'll begin de-burring and polishing various parts. Did a little de-burring today. I have a PG3 Vortek HO kit in my other 97. I've no complaints with it at all really...good shot cycle. I have another PG3 kit and a Maccari MKVI Hornet spring kit as well. Thinking of using the Maccari on this one....used one in a D34 with good results a good while back. I have a few things I want to do with this one to set it apart a bit from the other one. Anyway....I'm glad I'm finally getting this one squared away and ready for service. Just a few pics..........

By the way...I had forgotten to not use brass punches on these 97's. Use steel. You see I had swapped out for a steel one in the next pic. You'll likely bend a punch if not.

Easy-pleasey tear down. That took 15 minutes.....the rest will take days!!

Yes sir, that factory goop is for rust prevention not actually a lubricant...lots of folks expect to shoot 500 or more roubds thru to "break" them in. I have alway taken a few shots to make sure the tifle functions ok, then tear them down and clean, degrease and lube everything properly. By doing that the so called breakin time is a whole lot quicker and much less risk of causing damage to the internals. Keep us posted on how it goes!!

Totally agree 100%. Both my 97s were shot a couple of times just to ensure function and then torn down as brand new rifles and totally gone through. Thanks for the comment AirShot.

Look forward to watching your progress on this rifle James ! What beverage are you partaking in ? From the looks of that head of foam I'd say it's a IPA of some kind.

Wayne.....you are obviously a man who knows his beer. It's not an IPA, but close. It's an ice cold Pale Ale from the Good People Brewery right here in Alabama. I enjoy good craft beers. Thanks for the comment.........I'll let ya know how this one turns out.

That strong of hop character made me think it was a IPA. Must have been a hoppy pale.
