ANOTHER HEAD SHOT?

I've after this fellow for a while. He typically would run at the opening of the sliding glass door leading out to the deck. Being the genius I am not I decided to set up and leave the door open. I did this and took my target out to about the distance I expected to see him. Got sighted in at 40 yards hitting a dime sized target (perfect conditions) let the rifle sitting on the bags figuring I'd watch off and on for him while cleaning up "my stuff" which I had promise the MRS I'd do this afternoon. Within ten minutes I look out and there he is standing up as proud as could be. I carefully get in behind the gun and now where to hold. He's back about 5 yards from my sight in so I figure I'll hold on his head figuring it might drop a little but not much. First shot dropped him like a rock. He did that tail wag they do and it was all over. Here are some pictures of the GH and equipment

The rifle is the daystate red wolf with the walnut stock 22 cal shooting JSB diablo heavy pellets. My front rest is my prairie dog rest which is not my original idea but it works great for hunting applications. Scissors jack from a small car with bag on front. The distance was a measured 44 yards. My sight in target was at 40 yards and I was able to hit the strap which you can maybe see from the two inch target that had been shot off some time last week. So I was more then ready. I try to practice off hand shooting at those targets at about that distance. I used to be a pretty fair off hand shot but I've been struggling lately. Being 72 doesn't help nor does being fat and out of shape and out of practice. Haven't given up hope.
I love to shoot prairie dogs. Any one else interested I'm looking for a shooting partner for next year or even this year but it's late for this season and the antelope and deer seasons are coming up out west? They're not real fond of prairie doggers while the big game season is open.

Bob it was a "give me" No wind. I was dialed in to a known distance (or really close). Actually I'd have been really bummed out had I missed . As we know judging distance and wind is the critical aspect of longer range shooting. When you are able to pretty much eliminate those factors plus shooting a gun of that precision all I really had to do was NOT to jump the trigger and pull the shot. I am very realistic about my shooting abilities and while it was a nice clean shot most anyone could have made it given the circumstances . That being said I've missed a bunch of "give me" because I've miscalculated. Usually distance or wind. Hunting is a challenge because the variables constantly are changing.

bubbler,

Gimme or not, you still made the shot. To drop a woodchuck with a pellet is an accomplishment no matter what. My furthest shot on a woodchuck is 42 yds. I've shot at them at 50 and 62 and missed. Personally, they are a big enough animal that I will always try to get to within 40 yds unless I find myself on a super stable rest in ideal conditions, then I'll try the further shots.

Well done!
