Another gun choice thread..

Sorry but another gun choice/option thread here. I know some guys won’t like it but what the hell probably get answers and opinions I’m looking for. I am in the market for a pcp rifle. I have used the search button and have been doing a lot of research. I’m looking at 22 maybe 25 caliber that will be used for mostly small game. Squirrel rabbit dove things like that. So accuracy is definitely on the high end of my list. Shots don’t have to be crazy far out like 75 yards but definitely not against that either if I can get a gun with that capability and reliable. I was leaning towards the marauder rifle due to a lot of reviews on it but also was looking at the fx condor or that line of rifles because of a lot of tank and hype. I would say I like the look of the marauder a lot more that the I guess futuristic look of the condor. But looks don’t really matter to me if one is more accurate and reliable. Any input greatly appreciated. I’m currently looking into finding someone near me with these air rifles or others to shoot before I pull the trigger on purchasing. SE WI if anyone around there sees this post. So far this forum has been a great source from me and I see myself on here a lot going down the rabbit hole of air rifles.

Sounds like you prefer the traditional look of a wood rifle. For small game, can’t go wrong with a Daystate Revere. Lightweight, accurate, beautiful looking gun. .22 or .25 either would be great for what you want. But it does have a small tank. I can get about 35 shots from a full fill. But for squirrels, that is a lot more shots than you will need to get your limit anyway. Just be sure to get the regulated model, and a 0db moderator, and an Athlon Talos scope, and you will be ready for some great hunting.

I have been completely amazed at the accuracy of my FX Maverick VP .30cal. Here is a squirrel shot at 73 yards with FX Hybrid Slugs.

I know you lean towards a more traditional rifle, but there are some benefits of the Bullpup design, especially when you're walking a fair distance through heavy brush.

You can also check out the FX Crown for a more traditional rifle stock. The Crown MKII also allows caliber changes from .177 all the way to .30 cal, which definitely increases the resale value if you want to get something else down the line.

Tig,
You got that right, very common question. First, welcome to the forum, glad you're here and, no, we don't take offence. My common response, figuring your gun budget to be around $600 (think Marauder is around that price), would be to research the Air Venturi Avenger (Wood Stock), DAR Generation 3 and the soon-to-be-released JTS Airacuda Max. I'd recommend a regulated air gun and prefer the .25 caliber, but many will support the .22. Casino7095 has good YouTube reviews on Avenger and DAR. The Marauder and Umarex Gauntlet are good guns, but long, heavy and of an aging design. Don't forget you'll need a scope and a means to air up a PCP. Best of Luck, WM

My final choice for my first PCP gun was a regulated Factor RC in 22 Cal. If money was not a factor, I probably would have bought either an RTI Prophet or an FX of some flavor, 22 cal.

I was where you are now just a few months ago, trying to decide between the range from .177 and .30+. I ended up choosing 22 cal because the pellets were the lowest cost, with a fairly wide range of options and a high probability of excellent accuracy in the Factor RC. Also my perception was that a 22 cal pellet was less of a risk when it came to ricochets and misses than 25 or 30 cal and larger, through maybe not by much on the 25. The 22 pellets are even cheaper than .177 in many cases. 25 cal pellets are significantly more expensive - on AOA the 25s are almost 6 times the cost of the CPHP 22 cal which was too much for my geezerhood 5000+ rounds / year budget. I am pretty sure that my next airgun will likely be a 30 cal or maybe even bigger, and I will be casting my own slugs for it with the hundreds of pounds of free lead I have stashed away over the years, for essentially free ammo if you don't count my time. I enjoy casting so it isn't work for me and I am retired so I have plenty of time on my hands. I have no interest in casting 22 cal since they are so cheap and the CPHPs do everything I want so far.

99% of my shooting is currently with Crosman CPHPs. In my regulated Factor RC. I can shoot 130 rounds through it set on power setting 1 without needing to refill the 580 cc bottle. No experience with larger cal PCPs.

Awesome I’ll look into it. I’m so back and forth on what gun right now I feel like holding them in hand would be my selling point honestly. I think I narrowed it down to either a Daystate huntsman or a fx crown mkii. Until tomorrow lol. No but those two are as of now my top two choices.
@TigOleBityz If you haven’t made up your mind on what you’d like to purchase, take a look at this thread. It was created for members like yourself. It contains links, prices, and members’ real-world experiences with some of the suggested guns. Hope it helps some.
