Got him in the eye I need to start charging farmers for pesting any suggestions on how much

I think in Michigan you would need to be licensed to legally do pest control for payment. I have a friend who bid on a pest control job for a city and was denied because he didn’t have a license if I remember correctly. I wouldn’t ask for payment at my permissions because the answer would be no and I look upon it as entertainment to me.

The issue is trust. If I was a farmer I'd be pretty suspicious of some guy shooting around my buildings and animals. If he then ask for MONEY it would a total turn off.

I would consider it an honor to be trusted and I'd be extremely careful to not over step my welcome. In addition there are liability issues on both sides. What if the hunter falls or trips on something steps on a nail you name it.

If you have a good place to hunt it would be wise to not "blow it" by asking for money and wise to be a good neighbor/hunter/friend to the farmer.

It's getting real hard to find places to shoot. We all need to understand that and do everything in our mutual efforts to preserve our sport.

I'd suggest instead of asking for money bring the farmer/ land owner a gift. Something nice. It's what I would do if I could find a couple spots.

I have one place to shoot and it's on one of my best friends properties I get to shoot a few ground hogs each year and a couple pigeons. So if you have great spots consider how lucky you are.

To show you how hard it is I'm planning a guided hunt for ground hogs. I just don't have safe places to shoot. $1000 a day. That's what it's coming to for many of us.

At the farms where I shoot, they have fallen into two categories:

1. The pest problem was so severe that the farmers have welcomed me to come back whenever I want.

2. The problem wasn't so severe but got huge results in the first visit that I was welcomed to come back anytime I wanted.

It's definitely a matter of trust that can be broken with just one bad shot. Looking at some of my early vids, I cringe at some of the shots I took. Not being experienced with pellet deflection and retained energy after pass through, I didn't know any better then.

Having spent hundred of hours and a few thousand shots pesting over the last 9 months, I've seen exactly what a pellet is capable of and pass up so many shots now that I know better.

I consider myself lucky to have gotten through some of those early visits without having a mishap.
