Thanks for the update on the destructive nature of black squirrels guys. "Right now" ... around my back yard, all I ever see are fox squirrels, and though they too have good "chompers", I've never seen / had one attempt to chew their way into a building, like a red will do. It seems also... that with our abundance of fox squirrels, the reds must not be able to (or won't try too) compete for food, so they just reside elsewhere.

Our area has experienced a new manufacturing uptick in recent years and many acres of wooded habitat have disappeared. Just this past summer I noticed my first sighting of black squirrels in and around our NE Ohio area.... not saying they've not been here before, but now seeing them more frequently not all that far from my neighborhood, and I can't help but wonder if they were displaced from their natural habitat due to clearing of the land and the building of manufacturing facilities.
