An Unexpected Pellet

Shooting my maverick 25 compact yesterday. Target @ 108 yes. Had a time H&N 30G HUNTING pellets

I have NEVER had satisfactory results from H&N!

What the hey. Let's try them. My target is a pellet tin on a tree. Wind 8 right to left, coming and going. 928 fps.

What? 14 out of 16 on target, many touching or same hole. The misses were wind edgers right outside the tin.

I've really been dismissive of H&N. I think this one might have needed more speed. I tried a couple other variations, no go, bigger than a volley ball.

Then moved out to 180 yrs and was banging my Springer ground squirrel. Hmm?

Its good to have another option when looking for pellets!

Sadly none of my rifles really like the H&N pellets, though I have a ton of them.....lol Just keep buying rifles until I find one that likes those pellets

H&N Barracuda domes and H&N Hunter usually do alright by me. I have one gun (Hatsan Hydra) that seems to prefer H&N. It likes H&N Crow Magnon alright too. Any of these would be accurate enough for hunting. The hunting pellets do about as well as JSB Hades in my .25 caliber guns.

Target shooting competition I'll probably bring the JSB Exact/Heavy.

I've had relatively good results with H&N pellets from springers, pumpers and PCPs.

I'm not shooting past 50 yards (45.72 meters), so maybe this has some bearing?

I’m also a sub 50 yard airgun shooter and have had good results with a verity of H&N pellets. Notably the Barracuda 15 & 18, Barracuda FT, Match and the FTT. Not all of my guns like H&N but some of my guns don’t like certain JSB pellets either. Overall I think H&N are quality pellets and worthy of trying.

I've been using the Barracuda 15 for quite some time now and find them comparable to the Crosman Premier.

I'm finally getting around to try the 18 in my Kral NP03 and the results are promising.

baracuda 18s have worked pretty well for me, and i had gotten them when it was hard to get the jsb pellets.

Interesting that you mentioned them as an alternative to JSB 18. You must have picked up on my thought of saying that I use the H&N 18 as a substitute for the JSB 18.

I held back for saying it as an alternative to the JSB because of it's following as kind of iconic for that size and caliber. Some might consider it as 'blasphemy' and the thread,

might go on a completely different path.

Same results as you with my 30.86gr H&N Baracuda’s that equal or surpass JSB’s 25.39gr (need to test JSB 33.95gr) 25 caliber from my Avenger 25cal. More testing to come after a proper bbl polishing but at this point I have moved back to my midrange 85yd targets where a 38special cartridge case is easy pickings. These are great.

none of my guns like H&N's, but they didn't go to waste, I melted them down and cast some .457's for the Texan, no lead goes to waste here.
