An Memorable First Groundhog for 2021'

For the last couple of weeks I have been watching for the groundhogs to emerge. It seems where I live their running a little behind average. Anyway I had seen the one I got today last time I was at this farm but he did not stay out long enough to get off a shot. In fact the last time I was here my FX Impact fell off my van hood knocking the scope out of alignment where it was hitting about a foot low at fifteen yards. My rings are the FX No-Limits so it was just that the elevation slide out of position. It was cold and grey out today and I was going to do some long range target confirmation shooting. When I got tot the farm this groundhog was out and I did the usual wind check and Strelok input and pulled the trigger. The results a perfect head shot at 206 yards putting him right to sleep. Bill

That’s truly awesome with an air gun. Were you playing some Left to right wind? Super congrats!

Yep the wind was left to right. I sometimes take a wind meter with me but I did not have it that day. From my time at the job I retired from I sprayed a lot of pesticides and had to estimate wind speed until we got a wind meter to use there. From that I got pretty good at estimating wind speed before taking a reading. Bill

Awesome shooting...gonna be tough to top that one the rest of the season! Lol.

I'm headed out with the .30 Maverick myself today...gonna give some Neilson 47.2 grain a go!

Thanks to everyone for the nice comments. For James/ChuckHunter. I have an FX Maverick VP on order in .25 caliber. I am pretty sure I will be getting an 700mm 30 cal. barrel for it too to wring out all the fpe potential of the Maverick. I would be curious what fps and fpe those 47.2 grain Nielsen's are putting out for you. Bill

I'm shooting a 600mm superior 1:26 twist barrel and at the current setting its shooting the Nielsen's at 905 with acceptable accuracy...but I also silicone lubed some hybrids and at 925 are freaking laser beams out to 100...that's as far as I pushed it today...lol 

Might bump the power a little more tomorrow and see what she'll do...Keith at 68WHISKY is pushing them at 965 with a 700mm...he told me that's the speed they really like! 

Ive been told the 49.5 Nielsen's do better at long range!🎯
