I've noticed that there's been a huge response to the situation concerning "DonnyFL", LDCs, pickles etc., etc. and etc. There's always, though it seems, been a gross misinterpretation concerning "DonnyFL, LDCs, pickles etc., etc. and etc. and the law. I presently own and have owned Air Arms 410Es in .177 and .22 calibers with a shrouded barrels and there's never been a need for "add-ons" to quiet them down? The question, "why aren't manufacturers" designing pcps where there would be no need for "add-ons" to the 1/2 inch threaded end of the muzzle. With todays technology, I'm sure they have thought about it but at the rate things are going with "DonnyFL, LDCs, pickles etc., etc. and etc. and the law", what does the future hold for those of us that have more than grown to appreciate our sport and hobby? Something to think about and I'm just curious!

At some point just like Apple bypassed all the LCD monitor vendors by offering all in one computers. The PCP manufacturers might do the same. Could it be as simple as, shorter barrels and longer shrouds?

I think there is an element to us wanting to own and have one for the rebellious factor. I'm not saying it's a driving element, but I think it's there. It's kind of a soft spoken FU to the current suppressor laws, which are incredibly silly. There is also a cool factor. I have zero need for quiet and in fact could stand in my yard butt nekkid and fire my AR's all day without concern, but I do prefer and enjoy my airguns. I equip many of them with add ons simply because I like the look it gives. Any functionality is icing.

All that said, I think regardless of what efforts manufacturers go, there will always be a niche market for add ons. That's a part of any hobby. Nothing is ever good enough, and certainly nothing that comes off a production floor.

But everyone does not need or want to pay for a shrouded quiet gun . What do you think a Gamo brand gun would cost if Gamo had to engineer and test a shrouded version of every gun they make or rebrand ?

Airgun moderators are and have been legal as far as the vast majority of the industry is concerned. The case law is definitive regarding the legality of detachable airgun silencers. Airgun moderators are imported from foreign manufacturers and the customs forms literally say "airgun silencers". Try to import narcotics with "cocaine" on the customs form. I don't know what you're referring to with "at the rate things are going with DonnyFL and the law". There has been NO official determination regarding Donny FL as far as I know. It was a single incident that lead to this fiasco.

The Air Arms S410E is a great gun, but it is pretty low power compared to a lot of other offerings. Even then, where I shoot I WANT a quieter gun. An LDC is the best and cheapest way to do this. For high power slug guns, or really anything that shoots over 30 FPE a can is pretty much needed in addition to a shroud. Just because YOU have never had a need for "add-ons" doesn't mean that other don't WANT them. This is a pretty common theme whenever we are talking guns and regulation. "I don't NEED 30 round magazines, why do you?".

It costs manufacturers to design, develop, test, and manufacture shrouds. That means they'll likely charge more for these guns. Frankly, a lot of times the factory shrouds kinda suck since they need to operate within the strict parameters needed to make the rifle come in at a certain price point. It makes SENSE to let a 3rd party - whose FOCUS is sound moderation - to develop aftermarket alternatives that consumers can choose to buy or not to buy depending on their needs.

I am patiently waiting for my overloads to allow me to get a LDC, i will however get that from the EU version of "Donny"
CUZ everyone get the Donny it seem, so i want to try something else, though i am not on the cutting edge either with my safe bet.

I am not a fan of the brands that build in some form of report moderation, like other say i would prefer if they kept it clean and left it to the buyer what to get / do.
I wish my Vulcan 3 had a 7 CM longer barrel instead of the moderator it have taking up that space in the end of the shroud.

Will,many air guns do not come with sound dampers because they are made a looooog time ago,plus most are still in production and there are plenty of sound dampers from air gun suppliers made for those air guns.
I have many,None are from the Donny guy. Why I need sound dampers is because I shoot in my backyard and want to be able to not be noticed.

How much power are you making compared to people who use these devices? That's where the difference is.

A 28fpe in .22 vs 60-70 is a world of difference.

I'm not sure that the overall demand for air rifle suppression is sufficient to encourage the makers to put time and money into more effective shrouds. If add-on silencers should become unavailable, or subject to the same requirements as firearm suppressors, then I guess we'll find out. At that point, it could an important marketing element. But, I guess the question then might be, is the rifle itself subject to such prohibition or regulation?

Absolutely correct. I haven't shot my 12 fpe HW100 without the silencer, but I bet it's yard friendly.

I should have said "more manufactures" in my OP but having a senior moment comes more often than not. "My .22 Brocock Sniper HR is backyard quiet with just the shroud. " My Brocock Sniper is just as quiet as well but I do like and enjoy how quiet it is rather than without it!

Smart manufacturers that include a shroud would connect it to the barrel with 1/2 20

@Rob_in_NC: I agree with you but I was just curious because of so many post concerning "DonnyFL". For decades , I've understood suppressor laws and they are "incredibly silly" but some people would beg to differ based on the times in which we live, oh well!
