Took my son up to Findlay for the annual airgun show yesterday. Was a cold and snowy April Saturday, but we had a nice time. The show didn't take long to get thru. I was looking for a couple of guns I would like to add to the kids collection, but didn't find them. I did see the Wildcat in the new laminate stock and the Brocock Compatto as well as some absolutely gorgeous Daystates thanks to Jim at Precision Airguns!! Dennis Quakenbush, Extreme Big Bores, and Mr Hollowpoint were their as well with some very nice big bores.
Seeing all those airguns gave me some motivation to come home and do some work on my own guns. I had been playing with an SSG in my .30 Marauder. Though I got a very low ES, the SSG wouldn't allow me to get the power I wanted. I removed the SSG and made a new Delrin .200" transfer port. I ended up tuning for 900fps avg with 44gr JSB's. I was able to get an ES of 18fps for 14 shots. I did stretch it to 21 shots and still had a good ES. I think I will leave it alone as it shoots really good at 900fps!!
Next I did some tuning on the Bulldog. It was pretty good before, but was able to cut the ES down a bit further. Still shooting the 81gr JSB's, I cut the ES from 29fps down to 23fps and still kept the 920fps avg for 5 shots. My bulldog shoots the JSB's extremely well and cutting the ES down should help the long range accuracy.
Overall was a good Saturday. Always enjoy time with my kids as well as airguns!!
