got a Texan Air Force 45 cal on order. Would 300 grain lead bullets for reloading a 45-70 mess up the bore. They also have a copper plate at the base of the bullet to prevent powder from a regular bullet melting the lead

I would recommend NSA or Mr Hollowpoint slugs. If the copper engages the rifling, that will probably be a lot more drag that just lead.

I might see if I can heat and remove those copper plates?

Right size, but the copper might be a problem. Stick with pure soft lead for air.

NSA makes great pellets/slugs and are more than consistent enough to make for great accuracy. Don't forget the round balls for plinking. They allow quite a few more shots than the heavier slugs.
Enjoy the Texan. Probably the most adequate air rifle ever. Think 45 Colt from a carbine ballistics. Awesome.
