AMERICAN TACTICAL NOVA FREEDOM .22 MULTI-SHOT PCP Shipped

Just got an email that my .22 ATN has shipped from American Tactical. I had one a couple of weeks ago from Dodd Sports, but it was a 3600lb fill rather than a 4300lb fill so I sent it back. I looked over the low pressure edition and they are very neat. It has a 10 shot magazine, a low and high power switch, it's easy to pump, and it also has pcp fill port. I'll use it mainly on pcp to keep the interior dry, and if I have to pump the air is easy to bleed out and replace with dry air from my tank. I've heard good things about the accuracy, we'll see. I'll post again when the new gun shows up. Regards, Tom

Got mine yesterday. Interesting gun.
I must have found more than 8 loose screws. The two stock screws under the pump handle almost falling out and the screws on the top of the breech that hold the barrel in place were finger tight.
Although it is fairly accurate, I don't understand how after unscrewing the shroud end cap. There is NO Crown cut in this barrel. It looks like a flat hacksaw cut!
Fairly quiet considering that there are no baffles.
Pumping is not bad but is a pain in the butt if your arms are short.

All things considered though, it has potential, and worth the money.

Check all the screws and enjoy ...

I shot my .22 today for groups at 21 yards. 4 groups 3/8" to 5/16" with 14.3 Crosman pellets using a 3 X 9 Bug Buster. All I did was clean the barrel. That's almost hole in hole using a better scope and pellets. I will be putting a good scope on it and using JSB pellets. This gun is REGULATED, the 50CC prechamber stays at about 120 Bar according to the manual. A 50CC Plenum is large enough for 60-70fpe. Makes me wonder if they will be coming out with a .25 later. No wonder it shoots so good. I am super impressed with this. If this gun holds up, I will be selling most of my other pumpers, they won't be needed any longer. As soon as I sell another gun, I will be buying a .177 also. To reiterate, I'm more impressed with this gun than my Crown. The guy that designed this gun really has some horse power in his head. Regards, Tom

I shot it for strings today and definitely not regulated, that will teach me to take what is in the manual with a grain of salt. Just shooting 14.3's so far, when I warm up I will go out and shoot some 18.3, 25gr and 34gr and turn the spring a bit tighter. I did get 3 shots over 900fps with the 14.3's. I'll just be looking for a 4 or 5 shot sweet spot instead of 17 shots. Regards, Tom

I did a bunch of chrony work today. A nice sweet spot for 14.3's is at 2800psi to 2200psi, 910, 911, 920, 920, 920, 911fps, (920 = 27fpe). The hammer spring on mine can be turned 3-1/3 turns in, had to break loose loctite. Just twisted back and forth with pliers on short leg of allen wrench. Plus one turn with 14.3's gave 943fps at 2600lbs for 28fpe. Plus two turns with 14.3's gave 962fps at 2800lbs for 29fpe. Plus three turns with 14.3's gave 992fps at 3300lbs for 31fpe. Plus three turns for 18.13gr gave 915fps for 34fpe. Plus three turns for 25.4gr gave 816fps at 3000lbs for 38fpe. This gun is fun. I'll try to find time to do strings on all three weights of pellets and hammer spring plus turns tomorrow, that might catch some faster speeds. Regards, Tom

Here's some more numbers with 33.956 .22 JSBs hammer spring turned all the way up. 4000psi = 678fps, 695fps, 705fps, 723fps, 727fps, 742fps, 736fps, 723fps, 717fps, 708fps, 702fps, 684fps at 1900psi. Next string was from 3600psi = 711fps, 716fps, 723fps, 720fps, 727fps, 716fps, 707fps, 693fps at 2100psi. I did give it a pump at 3600psi to see how it was, it was easy. I've been shooting at 1' from the chrony, so will back off to 2' tomorrow to check speeds if I can get to it.
Oh, by the way, these pellets were hole in hole at 21 yards inside. Regards, Tom

Went out to check my chrony today, I set it at 2' from the muzzle. Appears to be getting the same speed except for the fact that I found the the hammer spring adjuster had another 3/4 turn left in it. The spring may need polished on the ends, that can cause adjustments to change. It did 845fps at 3200psi for 40fpe with the 25.4 JSB's. And 759fps at 3200psi for 43fpe with the 33.956 JSB's. What a toy. Regards, Tom

I’ve had the Nova Freedom pcp .22 for about a month now. First day I pumped it up and zeroed my scope - very accurate. After it set for about an hour I noticed the air pressure had dropped from 200bar to 150bar. I checked again an hour later and it was at 100bar. Checked for leaks at the barrel and tank - found a slight leak at the pressure gauge dial. Removed the gauge and ordered another from PCPMart. 2 weeks later it arrived with a little white washer - original had no washer behind it and dial was upside-down when tightened. New pressure gauge, with included washer installed, has the dial right-side up AND has held 200bar for 4 hours now - needle hasn’t budged. Now I’m happier that I don’t have to pump any extra for leaked air - wish they would’ve caught the missing washer during assembly.

Received my Nova Freedom .22 from American Tactical a few days ago. Noticed my air pressure dropping at a slower rate. Pumped it up to 3600 psi, next morning it was down to about 2900 psi. Later in the afternoon it was down to 2400 psi. Guess what? The pressure gauge was upside down. Removed the pressure gauge and no washer. Just for grins, I tried wrapping some teflon tape around the threads of the gauge, I'll see if that helps. If not, I'll be ordering a new gauge too.

*update - So far so good. Almost 6 hours later and the pressure is holding steady at 3000 psi.
