Did some testing yesterday with three moderators, The Huggett Belita, A DonnyFL Shogun and a home made from 26mm ID CF Tube and AirForce Baffles (7).
The Belita Shoots 1" high at 50. The Shogun shoots 4" low and the Home made shoots crosshair center perfect. ??? Thoughts! Harmonics, Resonance, Droop, Turbulence in moderator ........ the home made does have "proper" baffles rather than a more "open" interior and felt of the other two.
Edit: The Shogun was found to have a BIG problem internally. I have been using it on my .257 Texan. Upon pulling it apart I found that the felt and screen (plastic mesh) were all stuffed into the outlet end of the Shogun and partially blocking the exit hole. Evidently it is not robust enough for the Texan internally. A search for new materials is underway. I will replace the plastic mesh with 1/4" hardware cloth made of metal and the felt with some foam and try it again.
Replacing with a 7.5 mm dense foam wrap did the trick. Donny FL is now shooting about 1/2 inch lower and 1/2" to the right compared to the other 2 moderators which are now shooting to the same POI. There were evidently some wind effects yesterday which do not exist in todays nearly windless conditions. The Shogun is VERY much quieter with the 7.5 mm dense foam than with the original felt but I did have to use my hydraulic press to reassemble it the last 2 inches.
