Tie a string to the end of it. Makes it much easier to remove for adjustment. I used 25 pound test braided dacron fishing line.
Also, the easy way to open the air tube is to remove the shroud and the barrel band, then re install the barrel band and tighten only one set screw. Then you use the barrel band to unscrew the end of the air tube. Make about a quarter to a half turn, then loosen the set screw and rotate the barrel band back around, tighten the set screw and turn it again. Once you get the rhythm, it works faster than it sounds. To re-install, you can use a wrench on the quick fill.
And, obviously, make sure the air tube is empty before opening it.
