American Air Arms All Things EVOL - Master Thread

This week I purchased a Evol mini chambered in .22. This gun i wanted for a long time and were hard to get in Holland. But finally a forum member sold one. So did him a good offer and see there she is. I put a SWFA 3-15 on top of it. So its all American. What a beauty and what a breeze to shoot with. Love at first sight.

Congrats. After doing the conversions to ft./lbs. (FPE), it seems a little underpowered at around 20 FPE./764 FPS unless you tuned it that way. They're usually set up from the factory shooting around 28-30 FPE (38-40 joules). Do you guys have power restrictions? Also, what ammo are you using?

Thats a different buttstock then they come with. Is it adjustable? Nothing wrong with it if it works for you though. I like the adjustable length offered by the one it comes with. Nice looking mini in any case.

Who else on here finds it disappointing that Tom doesn’t make time for his costumers anymore? Makes me regret buying an EVOL because; being able to reach out directly to him and his team was one of the reasons i choose his product. Now we have to go through AOA service team that has a wait time of 48 hrs right now as well thats just for a call back. FX USA is sounding real nice right now..

FX USA dissolved on/about October 2023. Utah Air took over from FX USA for parts and service.

A couple years back, I bought a new .30 Paradigm and Tom spent an hour with me late on a Friday night answering many questions. He was very helpful but at the time, he was doing a lot by himself. I think his business took off with the success of the EVOL, and I know he was spread very thin even back then. Really out of touch with his current availability or direct support model.

Shane, Chris and others from AoA Service Department are excellent, and maybe they are deluged right now with volume. Keep trying and email followed by a VM usually gets a call back.

Sorry about your experience, but bear in mind there are many EVOL owners on this thread who might be able to help you by sending them a PM. When I can’t get directly to a Manufacturing technical resource, I rely on some very sharp knowledgeable people here on the forum.

Great response made feel better about my choice. So ill just post my email i sent out the them on here hopefully people can give me insight.

Good morning AAA, I purchased a EVOL 30 from AOA about 2 years ago but never really got around to using it until this year. I now have 7 permissions I pests ground squirrels, pigeons, varying hare, and coyotes for. I tried running JSB 44s and Hades but the wind effects them to much for my liking at longer distances and they kind of just go where they want out to 100 in wind. Which I’m in Central Ca right in that delta breeze every day; the holdovers/unders are also extreme with the pellets. So I now run NSAs 49.5s shooting WAY flatter and bucks the wind a lot more. Problem is now I’m not shooting them fast enough for them to expand at 810 fps getting a lot of pass throughs and ricochets. The tj barrel wants to like them but shoots a flyer every like 3rd or 4th shot. So I’m wondering what mods do I need to make it a dedicated slug rifle. Do I just drop a new barrel in it and up the settings? A plenum maybe? If you can please send me a list of what I need and a brief explanation. This is my email i sent out to AAA before realizing they no longer offer support.

@Castin’Catchin’ 26 Have you tried regular domed Diabolo pellets 44.75 grain (JSB or FX brand)? How about .30 FX Hybrid/.30 RMR SLAP slugs? I’ve shot both out to a little beyond 100 yards with decent results. .30 Hades performed well out to around 75-80 yards from what I can recall.
@Castin’Catchin’ 26 Here's an old thread. My Evol is older, but it can give you a better idea of what I'm talking about. I'm not a long-distance shooter and I believe this thread is from my first time shooting this rifle out that far. Another member posted some of his targets and ammo used within the thread.

Another member briefly discusses slug expansion and velocity in 20% ballistic gel within the thread below with photos.

Running the hades right now haven’t tried anything else you mentioned but from what im seeing my rifle needs to tuned and worked on to shoot the slugs efficiently

Im getting 867 fps with jsb 18s out of mine. I never tuned it and got it new.

Has anyone had a problem with their EVOL magazines jamming consistently? My EVOL .30 magazine keeps jamming with FX Atomix
I have had some issues with this. You can take them apart and adjust the spring tension. This helped in my case. Also make sure that the loaded ammo is not clipping on the inside. Have had that happen. Other than that, thats about all you can do I believe.

@Castin’Catchin’ 26 - I added the plenum extension to my Paradigm and Evol. That got the speed up for the slugs a bit higher than the normal plenum. My guns like the RMR 44g slugs which is fortunate. I'm shooting them around 900 fps. Haven't had any problem with kills at 100+ yards with either! I also had the new external reg adjuster add and it makes tuning a lot quicker, but you still have to go in and adjust the hammer the regular way. Derrik Wall did all the work and tuned the Paradigm for me.
