Alien Squirrels

So, what's up with the pigeon I shot the other day?

Hit with a regular JSB dome at 650fps (15FPE).

When I finally went down to retrieve it, I found blood all over the cement, 8 or 10 big drops.

And no pigeon.

Am I to believe in pigeon resurrections?!? Or was it simply another alien that landed with the same UFO as Ed's alien squirrel?

We will never know.... The mystery continues.... But as long as the aliens provide moving targets for airgun practice, I won't call up the UFO Society nor alert the CIA. Just keep'em coming.

So this "squirrel" took 85fpe with a .30cal FX Hybrid Slug, and not one drop of blood

That thing looked pretty fat! It could be that the outer layer of fat re-sealed the entry/exit wounds..and you destroyed or severed the heart.

I had a deer that I shot where there was a little spray where the arrow impact happened..complete pass thru..but absolutely zero blood for 40yards until the deer piled up..autopsy showed the arrow sliced all the heart blood vessels..leaving the heart "detached" and unable to pump.

I believe the pigeons and squirrels came on the same flight. In a few weeks, they will morph into humans and then we're in BIG TROUBLE 🤣

@estarkey7 Can’t call that one. I would think it had to have bled internally. Looks like one of those shots where when I go to clean it I’m standing back a little because as soon as I cut through the skin I know what’s coming.

That's probably what happened. Since the squirrel dropped with very little movement afterwards. That quartering shot probably took out a whole lot of things along the way.

Actually, he is on the smaller side compared to other squirrels I've taken this year. These rounds have a tendency to fragment, so it's possible the heart got sliced and diced during the round's travels.

Ed,

I can give the all-clear — at least what alien pigeons are concerned. Squirrels might be a different story.... 👍🏼

Just half an hour ago I found the stiff under a bush. Only dead pigeons are good pigeons.....

Glad to know I'm not crazy! 😀

If you stop the heart, the blood doesn't flow, with the exception of flow by gravity alone after death.

I have made many shots on tree rats and chipmunks that left NO blood. The ONLY thing they have in common is they were ALL intentional heart shots.

Stop the pump and the blood usually doesn't flow. However, it may drip out by gravity, if given enough time.

Good heart shot!

That makes sense. Not as juicy as alien 👽 squirrels, but makes sense nonetheless. 😃

Well, I guess I need to qualify my statement. I only shoot .177 at ~12fpe. If you shoot larger calibers and/or higher fpe, there can be a lot of blood because of the severe damage.

I prefer precision over power. Of course, to each their own. (smile)

Given your caliber and fpe, you made a very precise surgical shot to the heart and I think the video proves it! (grin)

Good work!
