Akela pellet testing results

...200 Akelas...?!?...

200 kral barrels. Same as what's on the Akela.

...thanks for qualifying that...I did not think you meant just 200 random barrels...

...the percentage ain't bad if the other barrels were all good shooters without too much boarder line stuff...

...pretty certain that's a Kral barrel on the Cayden... (grin)

I had a bore scope through one of my Kral Puncher breakers that was horrible looking but got 3/8-1/4 groups so I didn't worry about it.

The Akela I recently got shoots like a Laser and if it didn't shoot accurately I wouldnt do anything to void the 5 year warranty and just have Crosman send pickup tag to have it warrantied instead of putting money into a cheap gun thats still under warranty. Otherwise just just better to buy a Higher priced gun to begin with.

On the flip side if the gun is dirt cheap like a Benjamin Maximus $160 new with discount it would be reasonable to put a $150 machined Lothar Walter barrel on it still only around $300 plus $60 for the Challenger trigger group and $40 TKO silencer. $400 laser accurate 2000psi easy hand pump fill gun That's super light and quiet...

I like the accuracy of the Kral barrels shooting JSB and Crosman pellets.

I prefer the Crosman version just because of the 5 year warranty and it appears as though Crosman is a caring company.

Wow DanCarey, great photos from your bore scope!! Good lighting and focus. Look at all the lateral tool marks on the Akela factory barrel, that's got to slow the pellet down quite a bit, and scrape off lead. Anyone can appreciate the finish of the Lothar Walther barrel after seeing these pics.

It would be interesting to see how well a thorough polishing with JB paste and Flitz or Simichrome would improve the factory barrel.

My 18 grn pellets still didn’t show up today so I went ahead and tested it with the 15.89 JSB pellets that I had. I wanted to test at 50 yards but had to test at 40 yards instead. When I get the 18 grn ones I Will rearrange the cars in my driveway and Test at 50.When I first got it I was averaging 1/4 inch groups at 25 yards. Well at 40 yards I was averaging 3/8 groups. And I had the power adjusted between the 1/2 Mark and the 3/4 mark.So far I am satisfied with that.I would like to get a tad better and think I can with more testing. I don’t know why some people think this gun should shoot almost like a target gun. I just like a gun that is dependable and doesn’t leak air. And get reasonable accuracy out of it. If I want Something that is close to a target gun I’ll save my money and buy one.

...I stole them for another thread...

...methinks you will need to polish out most of the rifling out to smooth that bore...LoL...

I said I am satisfied with the groups but wouldn’t mind a tad better. I’ve only tried one pellet so far. That’s not much of a test. And 3/8 groups at 40 isn’t too bad with the first pellet That I tried.Just because you seen a picture of a bore of one Akela , It doesn’t mean that all of the barrels are like that. But to me it doesn’t matter, as long as it groups decent. I’m not gonna go taking apart a gun that is under a five year warranty yet anyway. Now if it was horrible accuracy I would just send the gun back. But it isn’t that bad at all. So after five years then I’ll think about polishing it.

Regardless of the bore pics the guns shoot really well. I've had plenty of MOA Kral barrels by cleaning and using a little JB bore paste. I took 24th place in the pro class of EBR in 2018 using a Factory Kral barrel and tuned valve. Pretty sure I had the 4th highest day 1 75 yard score as well. It was my first time competing and first time ever shooting an airgun at 100 yards outdoors. I'd say I did pretty fantastic.
