Ill try to help. So I take it the old poppet was doing same thing? The poppet should seal against the valve seat air tight. Make sure there’s no debris or flaws(like any burr or mark) on the face of where that poppet seals. If you can’t see anything you might need to lap/flatten the sealing surfaces.
Sometimes you can just burnish the poppet with a polishing compound to get it to seal. You’ll want to put a dab of compound with a tiny drop of oil on the sealing side of your poppet. You’ll then put your valve together and spin the poppet stem with a drill. You might need to back your spring tension when doing this. That should match up the sealing surfaces if they aren’t to bad. You can do the same thing I explained above with a sharpie and look for any flaws in the surfaces. Just sharpie the poppet sealing side and the face on the valve. Then spin with drill. Any flaws should will still be black.
Hope that makes sense. I’m not the best at explaining things. You can probably google a better explanation than mine lol. Also they make what’s called a V2 back plug for the katran. It’s a whole new valve for the katran. It’s the newer version with some updates and a degass screw. If you don’t have that version it might be worth just grabbing it. Should be like $50 at Utah.
Good luck
