Airguns V’s Rimfire , thoughts ?

So .... did you like the vid ??

Rog

It's best if you let us take over this thread from here on out, lol, just kidding Laity. I know you have a good sense of humor so I hope you can endure my jest and yes I liked the video. Non curmudgeons rule, and you certainly aren't like that !!!

Yep next time show us the close ups of the targets, and for all that is right and good please buy some worthy 22rf ammo. CCI??!!

I had my Anschutz 1827F 22rf tested at the Lapua facility for the best ammo, it shot 10 shots into .8" at 100M so I bought the whole case of that particular lot number of ammo.

Over at accurateshooter forum in the big 22rf ammo test they did with a Bleiker rifle, the best it did was IIRC 1/2" for how ever many groups were involved.

Oh boy, I'm really looking forward to my Thomas HPX with a slug barrel system! Gonna be awhile but the day will arrive(Lord willing) and it'll be worth the wait. It may very well outshoot my go-to 22rf.

Redwolf's sure shoot well with the right slugs, no denying it!

you are NOT in the minority

i will not watch videos either

Not sure who you are asking...but I’m personally not a video watcher.

I wish guys that made videos would do a short paragraph summing up what the pertinent facts are with maybe a couple pics of the actual groups. I mean no offense, but I prefer just the facts rather than 5-10 minutes to try and glean the facts from video. Due to the popularity of videos, I understand that I’m in the minority. I doubt I have watched any Airgun video in its entirety.

Interesting topic but all numbers are in favour of 22LR. We been planning on doing something similiar but with turning tided abit. 22air vs 22LR but both exceeding 100FPE and Air exceeding BC of 22LR. This will be tikka T1X with boyds stock vs my custom Spa M10 rebarreled with LW 222rem barrel shooting at 112FPE with bullets of BC of 0.2. Just need to get all the bloody testing and building done before tho.

Hi guys,

Loved the video and the thread. So I got a chance to shoot this weekend and thought I would give it a go. Since my RW22 isn't working right I used my RW177, FX Impact 30 cal and my Vudoo 22lr. I shot 5 groups of 5 shots and averaged all the groups. The RW177 I shot at 50 yards as well as this is what it is best at. The conditions were near prefect with nothing more then alight breeze. Here is the results:

Red Wolf .177 cal at 50 yard. Average size .484", Average MOA .928

Red Wolf .177 cal at 75 yards 16 gr JSB. Average size 1.464", Average MOA 1.058

Red Wolf .177 cal at 75 yards 15gr NSA slugs. Average size 1.058", Average MOA 1.348

FX Impact 30 cal at 75 yards. Average size .560", Average MOA .714

Vudoo 22lr at 75 yards. Average size .564", Average MOA .718

I would have loved to shoot my Red Wolf 22 against this crowd. I will likely repeat this at some point as I try and decide which rifle will be my competition rifle. I thought this was a bit more fair comparison as all the rifles cost about the same and are top notch products.

Have fun everyone

Glenn

Hi Glenn, thanks for the test.

Would you have any interest in repeating the test by shooting a BR card instead of the groups at 50y. Groups give an idea if the gun will place shots in the same location, but don’t represent the ability or ease in which one can place a shot where they want it in wind.

This is of interest to me as we are starting a new 50y BR organization for both airgun and rimfire.

Mike

Glenn....a BR card is the same as BR targets. Not sure who began calling them cards...but that's the way it is.

Here is our new National 50 card in a small 8 1/2 x 11 format for practicing. Designed to be shot at 50y.

To score 22 and 30 caliber equally and form a direct comparison...you will need plugs...but just shoot them first and we can figure the plug part out later.

There is a column of 5 sighters on each side of the 25 record bulls. Shoot all the sighters you want on the sides...but one shot per bull on the 25 inside.

Touching the center dot is a 10x, touching the first ring is a 10, second ring 9, etc.

If you are not familiar with scoring...I can help.

Set print on actual size. The 10 ring should be .315".

Finally got some time to shoot the 30 cal FX against the 22LR Vudoo. Love this 50 yard idea. Gauged both to a 30 cal pin. The FX had to have to the dust knocked off so wasn't sitting on a competition tune, but still shot a 238. The Vudoo 22 LR was a lot easier and shot a 248. I think the small calibers will be easier with the plug up. So next I will put the 17 Daystate to work and see what happens.

Glenn

Very good, Glenn....thanks for posting.

The results so far don’t surprise me much. The 22lr has much better wind resistance....so it will generally be easier to find the center in average conditions.

In the N50 current rules...Rimfire and slugs are a separate class and are scored with a .224” plug. 22 cal max.

The pellet class is scored with a .350” plug with the max caliber of 30.

So far, despite the larger plug, the pellet class is not posting any high scores.

My CZ 452 American will shoot 1/2" groups at 100yds with SK Plus if I do my part. The bane of 22rf is inconsistent primer in the rim. Most European 22rf ammunition is "Eley primed". you can tell thus by the head stamp. The American stuff is OK at 50yds but at 100yds the difference shows. Also, std velocity tend to be more consistent than high velocity due to the affect of the shock wave as the projectile drops to subsonic velocity.
