Airguns V’s Rimfire , thoughts ?

That’s interesting. I thought the 22 LR would’ve out shot it by far. I have an old Mossberg Bolt action 22 LR that was made in the 50s and what’s a little unusual about it is that it has a 26 inch long barrel which most 22s In the category came with 22 inch barrels. It’s also drilled and tapped for a peep sight.I have an old weaver scope on it.But it’ll hold tight groups at 100 yards. And that’s with CCI Mini mags.

Interesting. We had a bit of a .22LR vs .25 Airgun slug this past Saturday in AZ at the Extreme FT match. After the competition round, I went back out with Van T. I was shooting my .25 Impact with 43.5 grain NSA slugs. Behind us were Steve M shooting an Anschutz .22 LR and Mike S shooting a Vudoo .22 LR. Same course same time same wind. Both Steve and Mike shot 30/40, and I shot 29/40. Pretty close I’d say...

I can't say for sure but if Mike S and I had shot off an attached bipod while down in prone like you did I think we would have picked up a few more hits. We both shot off Mike's tall shooting stix style bipod, the same one he used in the regular match. Nevertheless a good slug shooter with a highly tuned gun is pretty darn close like you have shown. You're only 120 or so fps slower, and .045 BC less than a 22rf, which is really creeping up on 22rf standard velocity ammo.

For reference so others can understand, Mike S shot a 18 with his Redwolf using 22 cal 25gr pellets in the regular match which kinda shows how much harder it is with pellets.

True, good point. It wasn’t my good Accutac F class bipod but a cheapie Atlas clone. I’m not sure what typical BC is for .22 LR ammo. My slugs are about 0.105. I did shoot lane 1 bucket and sticks and got all 4. Plus that damn off hand lane where I got a whopping 2. :( I'm shooting about 80 FPE, so around 20 FPE short of standard .22 LR ammo.

interesting,my Anschulz 54.18 does better. I would get more of a kick out of shooting an air gun at 100 yds. and doing almost as good.I have target .22 rimfires I bought years ago,for 1/3 the price of a air gun that could shot as good, not fair I know.

The truth as I know it,.22 rimfires been great for many, many decades.

Air rifles that have target

.22 rimfire accuracy at 100 yards are fairly new....and it is so Great to finally have air rifles capable of such accuracy.

Both are great fun...but air rifles have a greater pride factor for me.

Given the apparent parity, is there any reason not to allow the Rimfire shooters to participate in the actual matches? A whole lot more people own 22lr guns than will ever own similarly performing air rifles. That’s an enormous pool of potential shooters that can be used to bring participation levels up and advance a particular discipline.

Why not just allow slug/Rimfire?

That’s what we will be doing with the National 50 BR that we are putting together.

Not sure who you are asking...but I’m personally not a video watcher.

I wish guys that made videos would do a short paragraph summing up what the pertinent facts are with maybe a couple pics of the actual groups. I mean no offense, but I prefer just the facts rather than 5-10 minutes to try and glean the facts from video. Due to the popularity of videos, I understand that I’m in the minority. I doubt I have watched any Airgun video in its entirety.
