AIRGUN SAFTEY ON YOUTUBE Videos: You can help ....

I agree with the spirit of the video - obviously responsibility is paramount in any shooting sport.

I would challenge your assertion that the "younger guys" who are the product of single mother urban families are the primary concern for safety infractions.

I work in the firearms training industry. I spend roughly 50-60 hours a week at ranges, gun shops and in firearms classes. The most EGREGIOUS and irresponsible firearms handling that I've seen has almost exclusively come from guys who "know what they're doing and have been hunting since they were 8!" Many times it is the hubris, the fact that they identify as an outdoorsman that means they aren't willing to listen to instructors and don't respect firearms and ranges to the degree that some newer shooters do.

It's a lot of the older guys who have been doing this sort of thing for a long time who will say things like "this is a Ruger 10/22...its barely more than a BB gun." Don't underestimate the younger and more urban shooters. They are the demographic that will really grow this sport.

I enjoyed your video and what you had to say!

Lmao when I read that comment I thought the video was about to have a SPICY take! It seemed well intentioned though, as a city boy I can attest to the fact that (given America’s unique constitution) we need to have gun safety and education as part of the regular schooling.

But to Nico’s point, I’ve seen people from everywhere and every age exhibit poor safety. I think a lot of it is character, I think people have innate risk aversion/taking traits. Some people are willing to drive without seatbelts, and some parents don’t even make their kids buckle up. It just sucks that the clowns in our community have a disproportionate effect on the way we’re perceived and legislated. It seems like in every other case the person is held responsible for their actions, with (air)shooting sports it’s the tools’ fault.

I don't see anything to disagree with in that video. I'd call it a win for airgunners.

In my experience, people don't tend to think of themselves as dangerous when they should. Seven years spent on the lines chivying people into safe behavior at a shooting range and more years than that spent training shooters taught me that.

Put a gun, motorcycle, or camera into someone's hands and some type of antics WILL occur. I've found that by regulating my behavior, others will begin to regulate theirs.

I do agree with Nico about people that think "they're good" at shooting and safety. They can be the worst. Confidence and skill are two completely different things.

Stay safe,

J~

Reactions: Shooting Targets
I just wanted to post this video out there for all the airgun folks that can probably help us youtubers out on safety.
See what you think, again I do not want this to become a gripe session more about helping the younger guys out with safety and our format in presenting safe harvest of animals.

Thanks for posting I was just looking for info on Safty.
