Airgun Moderators (The truth)

Hey guys, as usual I've been busy as can be this past month. I did have a chance to get out for a two days and film a few projects. This past trip I decided to discuss a little about moderators. I by no means am an expert but do have enough experience to offer a few tips that might help people. Here is a few test I did as well as my opinion on using sound meters.

Interesting how you and your dog stand in front of that rifle as if it wasn’t 70 ft. lbs. It’s probably a 1 in a million chance that sear will malfunction and send a pellet into either of you but it’s a chance I don’t take. Hell I don’t feel comfortable standing in front of my 5 ft lb drozd let alone my sk19. Different strokes for different folks

@crosman999 I generally like your videos, but I couldn’t really see much of a difference in the sound levels with or without the moderators. The echo didn’t help. Obviously the LCS is a louder gun than the Brocock, but other than that I really didn’t notice much difference concerning use of the moderators presented here.If you conduct the same test in a flatter and more open environment please record and post an update. Keep the content coming.

Unfortunately the time it takes to produce content can sometimes not even be worth it anymore. Most people think I make a fortune doing this, I gave up everything to pursue video and get very little return. Not sure what the future holds but will certainly try some new ideas.

@crosman999 If making this sort of content doesn’t generate the bulk of your livelihood at the moment then other things take precedence. That is perfectly understandable. However, I enjoy your content, especially when you camp out and cook your quarry. The above video came during a time where I’ve been trying to familiarize myself with moderators. I’ve been reading up on various types and I’ve recently been looking at both brands you presented today for a Brocock. So this was on time for me. It was just hard to determine how effective these would be. When you use them let’s say on a group of prairie dogs or doves, do you personally notice a difference in how the animals respond to the sound after a shot versus using no moderator?

Thanks for the comment and for watching. For prairie dogs on the wide open plains I don't think you would notice much of a difference. They will get spooked from the sound of the hit and the fact all they're buddies are disappearing. Areas like where I filmed this last one are where you really do notice a difference. A few decibel difference is considerably noticable by ear. Like I said the goal is to get rid of the high pitched crack that's the biggest giveaway. A few of my guns I don't even use a moderator because the area I'm hunting is so wide open. No use in extra length and weight if it's not needed. I run my .30 Safari with no mod on prairie dogs and ground squirrels with no noticable issues with spooked quarry. Hope this helps

@crosman999 It helps by allowing me to see and hear how these moderators sound in a real-world environment that I can see myself in as opposed to urban back yard shooting. I’m looking at how the animals might respond. I’m not the best shot and I’m looking at them from the perspective of something that may work to my advantage in order to take a second shot or move to another target.

Thanks for the report on the Moderators,,, Me myself I really like the Donny Fat Boy on all my guns. Makes them fit in my gun safe a lot better than the big long Moderators,, And you know Marley is the real star of your videos, LOL. Keep the videos coming I always hit the like button . I really love the fact your not a FX sales person in there back pocket ,
