Airgun hunting in Virginia and N. Carolina??

Hey guys Im considering moving out of NY. We have been thinking of Virginia and North Carolina. We will still have the seasons but hopefully not as harsh. I know I could look up the specifics of each state but was wondering if anyone lived in either place and could give a simple answer. When making final decisions I will thoroughly read the DEC regs. I mostly small game/predator hunt but would love a big game state also. lol

Hey, in Virginia, Air rifles may be used to take wild animals and birds, except migratory game birds and waterfowl. Exception, Crows may be taken with an air rifle, which are now, according to the Feds, a migratory game bird? Air rifles used for deer must be .35 caliber or larger. Air rifles can not be used to take bear and elk. These are the state laws; if you live/hunt in some of the more populated jurisdictions (occupied territory), local ordinances can apply.

In addition to the airgun friendly hunting laws pointed out above, Virginia also passed a specific law in 2011 to allow the use of airguns in your own yard as long as you have an "appropriate backstop" and keep your projectiles on your own property unless you gave the express written consent of another landowner.

That being said, the law does not stop the occasional wacky neighbor from calling the police reporting - there is a man outside with a big gun. Ive had one po po visit due to this. They showed up, verified airgun use and appropriate backstop and said "have a good day,". That said, I have a preference for quiet airguns and mostly shoot from indoors to outdoors. As of today, I now have 121.6 yards to play with. I prefer my airgun fun to not be interrupted by a friendly visit from law enforcement at my home.
