Airgun Depot Mystery Box Opinions

As per https://www.airgunnation.com/threads/airgun-mystery-boxes-live-tomorrow.1311752/, they are doing it again with a much larger available boxes.

So, what are y'all thinking about these? I read through the thread about the last time they did it (https://www.airgunnation.com/threads/airgun-depots-mystery-boxes.1287734/), and it seemed to be pretty worthless. Is there a chance they learned from that, or is history going to repeat itself?

From one point of view, 50/200 is a 25% chance to get something "epic". On the other hand, no one here posted about getting any of the big prizes. Are the desired prizes picked over for employees, friends and family, and everything else goes to outsiders, or do people feel this is on the up and up?

My overall concern is the statement "These boxes contain far more in retail value than the purchase price", which I consider the prices listed on their web site to be retail, so when people added up the price of the items last time, most were well under the $200. I do realize that they likely mean the suggested retail price, which is most often 10-50% higher than what it is normally sold for (true retail price). While legally, it might be true, good faith says the $200 should be based on the true retail.

I haven't bought anything from them, yet, so I have no experience if they changed to be more honorable or not.

I don't know what to think. I doubt Airgun Depot will do anything different this time. It seemed pretty successful on their end last time so why change it?

Usually when you see multiple people getting the same items in a mystery box, they're just clearing out old, slow moving inventory. I don't see anything wrong with that, but people need to be aware that's most likely what they'll be getting.

But I'm a sucker for mystery boxes in general. I usually have fair luck with them. So I'm undecided at this point.

Given their base pricing on items like pellets I wouldn't trust the value at all.

I have a couple of large drawers full of airgun stuff I don’t use already …I suspect a mystery box would grossly overload my mystery drawers.

After seeing the results of their last Mystery Box sale, I have no interest what-so-ever! Good luck to anyone willing to give it another try, I hope they did change from last time and their boxes actually do include some useful items and/or some good bargains!

It will be interesting to see the results if anyone here partakes this time around...

These remind me of the lucky bags you can get in Japan right after New Years. Filled with stuff(mostly junk) that didn't sell during the year.
Sure, you get a bargain on the purchase, but it's stuff you really would not buy for yourself if you saw it on the website.
It's a "gotcha" gamble
might be better if the boxes were separated into categories:; scpoe accessories, cleaning, pellets...etc ... but still the left overs of the past
Like a slot machine, people will see the top prize and think they're getting a Jackpot RAW for 299 when they're most likely to get the 1 cherry win.
I don't need help buying things i will never use in this sport...done plenty of that on my own..Like Beerthief, i probably need a shed
