Airgun classifieds

I have seen several sellers that don't do PayPal business. I have been around the forums for a while and I would never just send a money order, personal check or do a bank transfer to a seller for a high priced item and hope I get the item or get it as described. I have built some friends on the forums over the years and know they are trustworthy but even dealing with them I will only do PayPal. Anyone have any "regret" buys and was $hit out of luck because you paid with a method and could not get your money back?

BRIEFLY tried paypal, then they banned airgun dealers ( most wont recall those few years ago and I dropped them. Anti-Gun and airgun. Now that's just me rembering how they treated guns/airguns in the past and I am SO odd I still will not purchase parts from a maker who flagrantly stole a copy righted design ( worth a ton ) marketed it - poorly made copy- untill 1st parts started failing and they lost the patent lawsuit. Folded shop, shafted customers, stole a design, waited a couple of years and then became a "famous" parts maker/supplier. Now these day's almost everyone say's XXXXXX makes the best .... . Doesn't matter to me, I remember, wont support that company and STILL use the prior industry standard parts supplier said shady folks compete against.
Really surf around airguns and you might find a post about the person who purchased a high dollar airgun then claimed they received a rock ( good security for the seller eh?) and got a full refund from paypal..

Over 200 used rifle/pistols and some airgun accessories purchased and sold using U.S. Postal money orders ONLY.

20+ years U.S. Postal M/O's were the standard in buying/selling airguns. Cost about a buck per $500.00 ( ? ) back and cashed by the U>s> Postal service And no tax issues.

Now the people I've known a while and dealt with before I will ship a rifle before the payment arrives. Maybe it helps to meet a hundred + airgunners? After the 1st 100 from around the U.S. + World references get a lot closer, don't know any other airgun people? "I" wont buy from you. Cant get a U.S. Postal m/o , or, are not a respected know airgunner - in which case a personal check if fine- I wont sell to you.

Never had a problem.

Buy or sell any way you want. But this rampant ( rapid ) PAYPAL is the almighty answer ( you CAN get ripped off on paypal ) stuff is just a little odd. Paypal can be put on hold, canceled, maybe a high quality thief can fake paypal ( for a newbie ? ) reveres payment - might as well take a check- U.S. Postal m /o's ARE cash on the spot at any Post Office, cant be faked, cant be back charged .....

Shoot on,

John

I'm cautious, I won't even inquire about an item if the seller has no history. As far as sales I will offer to ship first with a verified trustworthy buyer, you were one of them. I think maybe we should look to put a watchdog type from our own community. Possibly someone that would be a middle man, they could receive a money order (US Postal) the numbers and place of origin are easily verified. Then the seller would ship, buyer would receive give the word to middle man a stamp to send the funds. i'd rather pay someone here than a mega bank.

I'm talking about high dollar items ($200 and up). Awhile ago there was a forum member on AGN, GTA and the Yellow classifieds named Anthony Jarvis. He hung around and bought and sold several items and built up positive feedback. Then he pulled a big scam on several people. He posted a PCP for sale and at least three people sent him money orders for the PCP. After he was banned for this scam he returned under several pseudonyms and started building up positive feedback again before someone was able to determine he was the same scammer.

I have sold and purchased numerous rifles, shotguns, revolvers, pistols, airguns and many accessories over the past two decades on Gunbroker. I have always used USPS mo or personal checks and have never had a problem. I do not have a Paypal account and do not intend to obtain one. I do not understand the reluctance to use USPS mo,s. You can cash them immediately upon receipt and then send the merchandise.

I've only bought two guns from classified ads. If I cant talk with the guy selling the product, get his personal email address and get answers to questions then no way.. I usually just mail the guy a check and when he gets it he ships. Been lucky, maybe.
this pay pal thing sounds good, but they are anti's and I don't support anything anti!! Period.

I'm not a vendor, retailer, etc. Just a person who sells and buys some personal stuff. I've sold a couple hundred times on Ebay (mostly archery),. I've only been burned once there and it was for less than $10.

I've bought and sold maybe 10 times here on AGN, not on any other air gun forums. Every transaction has been perfect. I prefer PayPal just because it is so instantaneous. I can sell, get paid, and package the item for shipment in the same day.

I always do a bit of researching here when I'm dealing with a new person. I actually search posts and read them. There are some here that I trust enough I don't need to get paid before shipping an item. Don't mind paying before receiving either.

I was almost burned once here and I contacted a couple other folks on this site that I don't know but knew they were more experienced than me. I decided not to sell to one fellow after doing some checking. There is another way that I can check someone out, but I'm not going to reveal that one here.

I bought something paying any PayPal about two months ago. Not airgun related. The seller kept sending auto e-mails saying item was on its way. My item was shipped to California instead of to my home in Kentucky (pretty big difference in the two states). I contacted PayPal and they did something to confirm I was being scammed. I had a PP refund in less than 5 days.

I've been selling on ebay for over 15 years and have no problem using paypal, actually I prefer it as a buyer because it give me protection against dishonest sellers. It also delivers funds instantly and I get my item faster as a bonus.

So when you are buying and not using paypal you are taking a risk.

As a seller, I'll take whatever buyer wants to pay with and will ship when funds clear.

Whatever PayPal's stance on second amendment rights my be, they've been stone cold solid with every single one of my sales/purchases for going on 10 years. I cannot say the same for anything involving the U.S. Postal services. On the contrary, I've had money and merchandise lost by USPS 4 times in the past 2 years. They have never ever paid up on any claims I've made no matter how well documented the loss. Even my local mail service is hit or miss with deliveries going to the wrong address not to mention numerous deliveries to me that where clearly addressed to some place else.

My bottom line is pragmatism not politics. PayPal does what it says it will do reliably and promptly. The post office does not.

I'm not trying to proselytize here. Just offering my experiences for your consideration.

Stick with PayPal ....a while back I got burned $275 on yellow by a guy with good feedback and PayPal refunded my money . The guy took several payments for the same mrod and another airgun he said he had ....I felt raped until PayPal refunded the dough. I know it's not a high dollar item but I can't just give money away being a father of young kids .
