Airforce Texan for hunting and Long R.

Hi everyone,

I am looking to buy an airforce Texan LSS next week but I’m not really sure of what caliber should I get, I was totally convinced of the .457 CF but seems like there are many other calibers or PCP rifles that can handle medium to big size prey with more than 3 shots per refill and old with better ballistics, I’m also interested in long range targets so could you guys help me out with these. Am really new into air rifles.

BR.

Your right 🤣🤣 want to do both with the same Airgun, don’t care about quietness and I’m buying an air tank and I can locally fill it up.
Now we are getting somewhere🤣
So you want more than 3 shots from what I understand? Lots of ways to achieve that🥴
And a big bore I'm guessing?
I can help with simple details but I know that big bore and lots of shot count together is not my area of expertise.
However I will say that if you looked elsewhere online for advise and felt lost; then you have now found the right place to acquire the said advise/knowledge you are looking for. Sit back and learn a bit, read posts, before too long you will have all of this figured out and wondering what lead slinger to get next🤣🎩🤙

If you wanna shoot long range with a Texan . Tethering your big tank to a regulator then to your gun is a .must. Also regardless of what big bore you get you need it to have a good barrel. Also Texans don't have a stock!!! They are nessary for accurate shooting. There are quite a few big dollar extra accessories needed to shoot big bores consistently. Also casting is a must for me... Big bore ammo is crazy expensive!!!! Lead a dollar a pound!! If you like to shoot make your own... I have a Texan 50 cal CF... Its breaks and needs modifications to shoot accurately. My barrel was terrible. Good.luck on your journey friend

I cant speak for the AF Texan because I have never owned, or shot one, but I do own a TalonP, and I bought it for varmint control.
The big thing for me is that the Airforce guns are so simple, that when a leak does eventually happen, I can just get out my spare ORing, all 4 of them, and be back in business in no time.
Seems to me for a Hunting gun, that would be a tremendous advantage.
I also agree about the stock. I have a MadDog stock on mine. I won't say it is 100% necessary, but it really bumps the gun up to the next level.
If you don't add a stock, just keep in mind that Airforce guns are hold sensitive. Once you adjust your hold, they shoot very well.

I also agree that .257 is a great place to start. You can always convert it to a larger caliber later if you fell that .257 isn't enough, but for any small to medium game. And maybe some larger too.
