Airforce Airforce Texan 308

Hi Guys
I have a new airforce texan 308.
I got a good deal. New rifle, scope,
Bipod; stock,, laser, 4 boxes of bullets for $700. I'm a happy camper.
The bullets are Nielsen speciality Arms.
65gr, 85gr, 105gr, and 120gr. I'm dialing it in for deer. Any one have any experience with these weights?
Any suggestions on bullet weights and FPS for deer? I'm brand new to this rifle su any feedback is welcomed.
Thanks Don

Awesome Deal .. you will see in most reviews the 308 likes bullets from 130gr to 150gr .. these are the weight i have purchased for mine , n they have worked great ... at 120gr it is to light for the 1-14 twist in the full length texan ... the 120 might work if you tune the gun at a reasonable speed gor that weight .. lighter weight are easily tuned better in the short carbine barrel than in the 34" barrel.

Where can I get 130gr to 150gr slugs?
Google can't find anything.

there are many places online that sell cast lead pretty cheap for regular powder burners online..Check them out... .308 is a common sold size...They will sell say 500 .308 slugs for $60.00 and they may be powder coated to which is a good thing...I f you cast yourself for under$40Lee will sell you a .308 cavity mold if the weight you need....

What about these? I'm a newbie to big bore rifles. I don't want to purchase something that won't work.

Im not a expert but the hardenes in PB bullets depending on the manufacture is a bit high.. usually pure lead is bhn 6 to 7 .. PB bullets bhn is 16+ n even higher . The harder the lead the more difficult will be for a airgun to shoot it ..
True but sharing a PB bore/lands means you can get a cheap widely available mold and roll your own with whatever alloy you want. I think thats why the 457 are so popular too, I know if I had one I would cast to save money. Those big bore ammos are kinda out of control, more than PB bullets even.

Yes they will work...The lead is a little harder but they should be fine...The High Tech or powder coating is a good thing...I shoot all mu airgun slugs powder coated...

I might try casting. Where do I get lead?
Buying it online isn't cheap with shipping. Where can you recycle it?
your local recycling center or scrap yard is your best bet...Pure lead is $1.25 a pound at a local scrap yard..Roofing lead is 100 percent soft perfect for airguns and muzzleloaders
