AirForce resurrecting Theoben models....any recent news / updates ?

Hi all.

I was wondering if anyone has seen or heard any recent news about the plans that AirForce announced to resurrect some of the wonderful Theoben rifles ? That news was back in early 2018, if I recall correctly. I haven't found much info after that.

I sure hope they haven't quietly reconsidered their plans. I'd love to see what they could do with the concept.

Thanks in advance.

Me too, they were and still are fantastic guns, none of the fancy gizmos that other more modern gun come with, but in a way they are better because of it. Simple, durable, reliable and mind blowingly accurate.

the only upgrade I would do is the block having a picatinny mount, there is nothing wrong with the theoben system but is does make mounting of night vision a bit of a pain.

IDK but because “Martin is busy at the moment, I can answer any questions you may have” was my answer, I’m on a roller coaster when I find out the NEW .357 is THE MASTER mono block of all RAW air rifles. I specifically said to her, “I want a .357 RAW, but if I don’t like the pellets price, accuracy, retained energy past 200 yards, I understand you can’t switch calibers on the .357.” “That’s correct Sir.” She talked herself right out of a sale.
If she would have told me what I found out after a large purchase limited by tensioned barrel system but otherwise an amazing platform that has potential to send anything in .257 if a 28-36” barrel could be put on, like a RAW receiver would have no problem holding tight. Oh man. Just update the website. Then I’ll start wondering if I’ll ever hold a Scirocco or Vanquish again.

I personally want bolt action option back as shooting for me doesn’t include speed/timed courses.

I hope you get whatever dream gun you’re after. Love those old Rapids.

IMO the biggest issue faced with the Theoben / RAW mono block receivers when assembled into HIGH power BIG bore is a VERY LIMITED plenum volume.

The X versions addressed this issue by having a longer receiver not only increasing sub chamber/ plenum volume but the volume within the valve chamber too.

This allowed powerful .22 & .25's and modest power in the .30's .... Taking the platform further yet into serious Big Bore high power is going to take an external plenum or another redesign.

JMO tho ...

Not a dig on RAW or Theoben what so ever, there simply AWESOME guns !!!

Really?

i have tuned a .30 cal RAW 1000x, no external plenum, peek power was 135fpe, and a .357 to 165fpe, with an external plenum, valve cap extension and a heavier spring guide I think I could exceed 200fpe. Noise would be horrible, shot count worse.
