*~*~*~ Air Venturi Nomad II *~*~*~ for filling your airgun!....Anyone use this?

ive watched alot of youtubes lol ... imo its a glorified 'tuxing' 300$ compressor ... im surprised more people dont talk about that one, those style compressors, specifically the ones that run on 12v, are probably the best option for 'in the field' portable use .. i plan on getting one to round out my setup, a tuxing though, im not paying no 7-800$ for a name ...

Ive been using the Nomad 2 for 18 months. Over 230 fills of Marauders, Daystate Regals and Daystate Red Wolf. Mostly fills on the Red Wolf. When I 1st got it the fill gauge was consistently off and Pyramyd/Air Venturi sent me a replacement gauge that is spot on. In retrospect, I think I was being too picky because it was not too much off and it was off by the same amount each time. I do the required maintenance and have had no issues at all.

OK - Here is my 4 cents worth.

Got one in Jan 2019. It broke July 2019. They replaced it, no questions ask. Sounds bad but as they say, BUT WAIT THEIRS MORE.

Of course I knew nothing about it to start with. It ran good and filled my 200 BAR gun just fine. After several fills I noticed oil leaking out the bottom. Seems there is a small brass thing on the side with a hole in it and that is where the maintenance oil is supposed to go. Mine had no brass thing, just a hole in the case and that is where I put the oil (Crosman silicone oil). Finally found the brass thing in the bottom of the case. It goes thru the hole and there is a small clear plastic hose that attached to it and routes the oil down to the piston, not all over the inside of the compressor like I was doing. This probably didn't help the longevity of the compressor. In its last days it was leaking quite a bit of oil from the connecting rod into the crank case. (A completely different issue then my beginning filling procedure.)

I understand the early early ones had problems with the power supply and they fixed that issue. The generation I had also had problems with not enough grease around where the crankshaft connects to the connecting rod and they fixed that. Mine knocked (HAMMERED) quite a bit at the end and finally the connecting rod started slipping on the crank. My first one had a cover over the crankcase. My current one does not and it allows easily access to reposition, or add, the grease.

Thru all this I got nothing but great support from PA and AV. They were top notch.

Around Christmas last year I purchased the Hill Compressor from them to use as my primary unit. The Nomad II is now used for "field trips" and the like, which it is perfect for. Also a good backup. They furnished me with tips on how to properly store it.

I think when they first released it they did exactly like about everyone else in the airgun world and used us as guinea pigs to find THEIR problems.

This compressor had worked flawlessly since July 2019.

Just follow their maintenance directions. I find it quite difficult to get the correct amount of oil in the hole on the side. Sometimes it blows out air and sometimes it sucks. I have never been able to figure how to get it to drop sideways! It is hard to measure the correct amount 2-3 drops. Even the drops can be different sizes. Use the bottle that comes with the unit and they are one size, use the Crosman silicone tube and they are another and using the RWS silicone oil with the thin metal needle and they are still another. In any event DO NOT OVER OIL!

I also heard a lot of bad stuff about the Nomad II. I experienced it.

Think I like it better for "field trips" then I would a bottle.

I have a Nomad II and really like it. I use it to air up my 2 Daystates, 2 M-rods, P-rod, and 2 Avengers - doesn't take it long either (and beats the heck out of a hand pump). I add a few drops of silicon oil now and then. I shoot near about every day in my yard. I'm a target shooter.

I also have the larger Air Venturi 4500 HPA compressor I use to keep my 66 cu.ft. SCBA tank charged up.

Both compressors run good for me.

Hi all
I have both nomad and tuxing.
tuxing was a Saturday night special when I first got it" it clattered and banged and only filled to about 1500psi then would grind to a stop more or less
The roller bearing for the crank shaft was as rough as a bears ass and the inner part of the piston was snapped hence the banging from the factory.
The power supply in both needed turning up by the screw inside the psu case too get them running at the correct speed .
I replaced bearing with a similar type and installed new piston and cut a hole in plastic cover and inserted a small computer case fan for cooling the crankshaft.
Gave it a quick service and its perfect.
The nomad is basically identical and most parts are interchangeable but it also suffers from the same faults but at 3 times the price of the tuxing.
Main points for longevity are always let it cool down after filling back to the temp you started at" oil it at regular intervals and purge it of moisture.
Replace filters inside pump and in the filling line filter housing.
Never start it with air pressure built up" always release air then start from zero.
I've not had a problem out of either for well over a 18 months and I've used them a fair bit.
You could buy 3 tuxing or one nomad " I know what I would buy.
Hope this info helps someone
Ps I use the silicone oil they use on treadmills.
