Air venturi in 177

Let me first preface this by saying, "It's a $300 gun".
I had one and set it up as a loaner for HFT because my thinking was a beginner in the sport, would not be willing to spend north of a grand just to see if they liked FT or not. Shooting 10.34's at around 890, it is as good as any sub $800 gun I've shot.
The big caveat I ran into is the trigger, at least for me shooting FT. I'm sure it's just fine for casual shooting but for competitive shooting it really lacks.
Oh yea. The gun is loud.

I bought the plastic Avenger in .22, then sprung for the replacement wood stock. My experience with the trigger was that with a little bit of work you can make the trigger nice. See https://www.airgunnation.com/topic/has-anyone-done-a-trigger-job-on-the-a-v-avenger/ . Mine likes CPHP just fine, and is plenty accurate. The external hammer spring and regulator adjustments are a nice touch. I have it set up now to get 80 or so shots using the CPHP at 840 fps.

Some downsides: some Avengers have been known to have problems with wandering POI. The DonnyFL 1/2×20 adapter helps with that. It's a little loud; the plastic one I bought has a shroud but there's absolutely nothing in the shroud like baffles or any other silencing tricks. The plastic stock is almost too light in the rear, but you can stuff rags or a plug of duct sealer in the stock to weight it down a little bit.

I have one in .177. I have it tunes to shoot 8.4 ish grain pellets at 860fps. It likes the JSB's best. I haven't had it long enough or had enough days with ".177 wind" to be able to try other tunes. I do have some slugs and some heavier pellets that I want to try.

It is accurate and I haven't noticed any poi shift yet. Mine came with the baffled end cap and at its current tune is pretty quiet. Backyard friendly? Maybe... Depends on your tune and neighbors. As was mentioned earlier the Donny FL adapter allows a 1/2 unf moderator to be installed and there are also 3D printed ones available on Ebay and from Buckrail. I have a Buckrail one and it changed the pitch of the report but didn't quiet it much imo. I did not test it with a DB meter or anything, just my ear.

The trigger can be made better, but that requires you to make it a single stage which a lot of people do not care for. I haven't done it yet to mine, but I think I will eventually. Basically you replace the rest screw which is a "sear engagement" screw with a longer one so you can get rid of the second stage "roll" that these triggers have.

I would call the trigger a good hunting trigger, but bench/match, it is not bad but that "roll" never let's you forget the price point or country of origin.😉
