Air Venturi Avenger .22 and slugs

Just ordered a wood stocked avenger in .22; and seen some promising vids on Youtube about some of these guns shooting JSB knock out and H&N slugs well.

Anyone have some input as to where to set the initial reg pressure setting and hammer spring tension for these?

Looking for a baseline and to work / tune from there.

Thinking 30 or so FPE would be plenty, not looking for high power- low shots per fill, instead looking for a happy mid range with good power, accuracy and air efficiency.

Also, anyone have some experience as to what their gun shoots best; .216 .217 or .218 diameter slugs?

Thanks for the input!

my 22 loves the .2165 and .217 neilsen slugs in 20.2gr. When I have it up to around 55fpe the 27.5gr do really well. I ported it out and put a larger plenum on to get to that power though. A good starting point is 2000-2200 with 2 or so turns on hammer. You will hit a wall with the stock 22 on reg pressure around 26-2700. Have fun!

Sorry for the hijack.

@NickNorthGA - (please forgive my ignorance, and no disrespect is intended), regarding your suggested starting point....why so high?

I ask because I am running (on my unmodified .22) what I think is quite a bit less pressure (and HS) and getting 875ish with the 18.1's. I understand there is probably a huge lack of consistency from one gauge to the next, and a large amount of inaccuracy with each gauge. But I'm wondering if I should try higher pressures and HS....but I'm curious about what your reasoning is for running as high as you suggest. How fast are you shooting the 18.1's?

Thanks for any insight.

Hey sorry for the late reply. I honestly can't remember what my gun was doing stock with 18gr because I've done so much stuff in a couple different steps. I want to say I had it at 2000 with 18 stock flying good around 880. I really haven't shot 18gr in a long time. Pellet wise I've gone to beasts and monsters but mostly stick to 20.2 and 24.8 slugs. Now at 2100 I'm getting around 45fpe in .22 so I'm kinda lost anymore with suggesting tunes for a stock .22. Now at 2600 I'm getting right at 60fpe. Beast of a 22 cal.

what’s a good starting point for tuning my .22 for the .20 grain slugs?//www.w3.org/2000/svg%22%20viewBox=%220%200%20210%20140%22%3E%3C/svg%3E

Hi everyone so I have a question. I can sight in my gun at 50 yards perfect. I have reg at 1900 and hammer spring at 2.75 turns hitting jsb 18 grain heavy. So then I go out to go hunt with my gun and I want to hit a crown sparrow and the pellet goes to the left by 2 inches. So I shoot again. Same results. So I come back in and sure enough my gun is not sighted. So I sight it again. Go back out to hunt. Again same results. What is going on!!!!! Running a Nikon scope 3.5x14-44.
