Air stippers vs Shroud

Hey guys,

Noobie question here fellas but is an Air Stripper supposed to reduce the sound of the shot of a PCP? or is it used for Accuracy?

its there to diffuse the air blast behind the pellet so it wont push it off course. has nothing to do with sound.

Rifles with an air stripper can have a really loud crack when fired. As posted by Deja they move the air blast away from the pellet to increase accuracy. A shroud encloses and usually extends beyond the barrel, gives the air room to expand, and so quietens the shot.

I bought a so-called air stripper and it was marketed as a sound reduction device, and that's what it does. It's on the S510 carbine 

There is a lot of dancing around about what to call these things , LDC for lead dust collector used to be a popular term, wink wink. It's basically like a muffler on your car.

a shroud will extend past the barrel and have equal diameter back to the breech block. An air stripper attaches to the end of the barrel and is sometimes called a pickle.
